Adorable Christmas Kids moves to Facebook

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

This year, the Times-Gazette's "Adorable Christmas Kids" contest is being conducted on Facebook. That was a relatively late development, when our previous contest platform turned out to be unavailable.

Most users seem to be adapting well to the change, and we had quite a few submissions over the weekend.

The contest will be judged by Facebook "likes" (which includes "love" or any of the other emoticons). Only the likes on our official contest page will be counted. If you re-share a photo to your own timeline, and people like it there, that won't be counted for purposes of the contest.

The only likes that count will be the ones at the actual contest page. (You can, of course, share your photo to build interest, but you need to tell your friends and family to go to the contest page to cast their votes.)

To enter

To enter the contest, go to the contest page at Facebook. You can upload a photo just as you would to any Facebook page or timeline.

New or old photos are acceptable, with one child or multiple children. The subject of the photo should be a child, at least when the photo was taken. Please don't upload professional photos unless you have the permission of the photographer.

Photos uploaded to our normal photo-sharing feature are not entered in the contest. Only photos uploaded to the special Facebook page are contest entries.

To vote

To cast your vote, go to the contest page at Facebook. To see the photos that have been submitted, click on the word "Community." If you are using a desktop or laptop computer, this will be in the left column; if you're using a smartphone, it will be at the top of the page.

One you're on the "community" page, you'll see entries. If you only see two entries, there should be a link or button below them to see more. To vote for an entry, just "like" it, as you would any Facebook photo or post.

Some of our advertising for the contest, based on our old contest platform, states that voting does not start until Dec. 9. But because of the shift to the Facebook platform, you can actually cast your vote at any time.

The contest is sponsored by Heritage Jewelers, DSC Sanitation and Domino's. First prize is a $200 Heritage Jewelers gift card, while second prize is a $100 gift card.
