Park plan: 'Leave it like it is'
There may be hope for the Our Town Park on the square.
The Times-Gazette reported Wednesday the park was sold to James E. Farrar Sr. by descendents of the late attorney John Norton.
Farrar told the T-G that he would "like to leave it like it is." He is interested in having the city continue to maintain the property, he said.
City officials could not be reached for comment at press time.
Farrar said he also bought Norton's office building, which is next to the park. He is cleaning it up and plans to offer it for lease, he said. He and Norton were friends and neighbors for years, he said.
There were discussions between the city and the estate over the last couple of months for the park to be donated to the city, which provides the property's maintenance. The agreement for the maintenance effort requires 30 days for termination.
