UNIONVILLE — Revenge is sweet.

After losing to the Moore County Raiders in overtime earlier in the season, the Community Vikings left no doubt about the outcome Friday night as the Vikings beat the Raiders 73-47.

Community (5-4) held Moore County to three points in the second and third quarters in winning their third consecutive game.

“We had the pace going the way we like it tonight,” Coach Robbie Davis of the Vikings said. “I challenged our guys at the walk-through today to get the game how we like it. The guys came out with good energy.”

Effort continues

Dillon Whitaker picked up where he left off the previous night by connecting on three treys in the opening quarter. Alex Mitchell added seven points with one three-pointer as the Vikings ended the first quarter with a 22-20 lead.

The Viking defense took over in the second quarter.

Thomas Buchanan scored four points as Community scored the first 15 points to take a 37-20 lead. The Raiders could only net a trey with 36 seconds left as the Vikings took a 37-23 lead at halftime.

It was a familiar script in the third quarter. The Raiders scored their three points early on before the Vikings scored the final 13 points. Kobe Pride led the way with eight points as Community took a 54-26 advantage to the final quarter.

Great defense

“As the game goes along, you don’t really get to focus on that,” Davis said in regards to his team’s defensive success in the middle quarters. “You’re just looking toward the end result and what’s going on right then. After the game, you start looking and realize you really did that.”

The beat went on as Whitaker had two treys while Mitchell added five points. The Vikings took their biggest lead at 70-41 with 2:26 remaining.

Whitaker ended with 18 points while Mitchell had 14 to lead the Vikings. Community had 11 players score.

Clay Burnett led Moore County with 13 points.

“Overall, it was a great effort and we got everybody in,” Davis said. “A lot of contributors tonight.”

Community will return to action Thursday at the Blackman Outback Classic. The Vikings will take on Stone Memorial with game time at 4 p.m.
