Suspect drives away with stolen trailer
A utility trailer containing a plow was driven away from a Kingree Road home by a thief who damaged a metal building in the process.
The victim said he was notified by a neighbor around 9 a.m. Thursday that the storage building had been pulled into the road on Center Street. That neighbor had heard a loud noise around 1 a.m. and checked outside but didn’t seen anything amiss in the dark.
A folding ladder and tools were missing from the building, police said.
An attempt to shoplift items from the Dollar General Store in the 1000 block of Madison Street was stopped by the sensor alarm, police said.
Chauntel Renee Lomax, 33, of Carter Street allegedly attempted to walk out with candles and various household items in a diaper bag after paying for several other items when the alarm sounded.
Lomax didn’t bring back the bag when asked to by an employee, who found it in a shopping cart, police said. Lomax was released on recognizance.
