Woman who found wallet demands to receive reward

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

Quite a dispute has arisen over the return of a missing wallet.

A Shelbyville woman posted on Facebook last week she had found the wallet in the Walmart parking lot and was seeking its owner. The owner and finder communicated on Facebook Messenger and discussed meeting to turn over the wallet, but with no time or location determined.

After several attempts to contact the woman, she and her boyfriend answered with a demand for a reward. The wallet's owner told her he wanted the wallet back or he'd go to the police. "Since you contacted the police, good luck finding your wallet," the woman said.

Officer David Dye said the woman felt the wallet's owner was rude to her. She told Dye she'd returned the wallet to Walmart and placed it beside the building in the parking lot.

The wallet's owner said the wallet, containing $60, his driver's license and a debit card, was not in the parking lot. It had not been turned in to store personnel, Dye was told.

Home burglary

A home on Wildwood Drive in Unionville was entered twice Saturday, the Bedford County Sheriff's Office said.

The homeowners said they arrived at midday Saturday to find doorknobs missing and damage from attempts to enter the house and two storage buildings. An unfamiliar gold vehicle in the driveway left at that time and had been seen there several hours earlier, a neighbor said.

Four hours later two people ran from the home with a briefcase and ran into nearby woods, a neighbor reported. Items were falling out of the briefcase as they ran and several collectible bottles are missing, the BCSO said.

Several laptop computers, an XBox and pearl earrings were stolen from a Woodbury Street home, police said Friday.

The victim told police she arrived at 10 p.m. Thursday to find a woman standing in front of house and a man walking from behind it.

A tourque wrench and magnetic light were taken from a truck at Shelbyville Public Works, Industrial Boulevard.

The victim said a power air ratchet was stolen from the truck two weeks ago but reappeared after he told fellow workers he was going to have the building's surveillance video checked.

Two teenagers have been charged with stealing a truck and entering several vehicles at Thompson Street residences.

The truck was recovered on nearby Highland Court and other items found in bags at the scene, police said.

Cocaine was found in the possession of a man who, along with other spectators, was being searched before a concert at Calsonic Arena on Saturday night, police said.

A security guard said Luis Fernando Zapata Rangel, 34, of Chattanooga possessed what police later discovered was 6.93 grams of cocaine in a bag within a cigarette pack.

Zapata was charged with possession of schedule II drug and released on $5,000 bond.

A metal pipe containing marijuana was found Friday in the possession of a woman being booked into Bedford County Jail, a Bedford County Sheriff's Office report said.
