Letter to the Editor

No help from city or county with abandoned cats

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

To the editor:

This letter is addressed to our city and county offices.

Paying taxes is a part of our pact to keep the city running smoothly. Your part is to keep the services running smoothly.

There is a huge breakdown in animal control. Some people who rent move and leave animals, especially cats, behind. Who do you think ends up taking care of them? Rather than see them starve you feed them and then they are called yours. The no-kill shelters, city and county, refuse to take them. I have an abandoned mama cat that has brought me six kittens. I have caught five of them but what am I supposed to do with them? The mama cat is with kittens again. I’m overrun. I’m bearing the cost of cat food, cat litter and other costs of care and only one person has offered any help.

Barbara Helms,

Shelbyville
