CHAPEL HILL — The Community Middle Vikings held on for a slim, one-point win on Monday night at Forrest Middle, avenging an overtime loss earlier this season.
The Vikings withstood a 12-point rally in the fourth quarter and claimed the 38-37 win.
Community led 9-6 after the first quarter and 24-16 at the break.
The Rockets matched Community’s nine points in the third frame, but out-scored the Vikings 12-5 in the final frame.
All of Community’s fourth-quarter points came from the free throw line, where the team was 5 of 15 in the frame.
Maki Fleming led the Vikings with 19 points.

MTCS 58, Cascade 56
MURFREESBORO — A stellar effort by Cascade’s Chance Brown and Lucas Clanton came up short for the Champions in a 58-56 defeat at MTCS on Monday night.
The Champion duo combined for 37 points, with Clanton making good on 19 points.
MTCS led 12-8 after the first quarter, but saw Cascade rally with a second-quarter surge to cut the Cougars’ lead to one point.
Cascade continued to play MTCS closely, but the Cougars out-scored the Champs 19-18 in the third quarter and matched Cascade’s 13 points in the fourth to hang on for the two-point win.
Cascade shot seven 3’s in the loss, with Clanton connecting on four, while Brown added three.

Forrest 37, Community 33
CHAPEL HILL — The Community Viqueens fell from the ranks of unbeatens on Monday evening with a 37-33 loss at Forrest.
Forrest led 6-5 after the first quarter, but Community out-scored the Lady Rockets 12-10 in the second quarter and led 17-16 at halftime.
Community added 10 more in the third, but ran into a scoring drought in the fourth quarter, allowing the Lady Rockets to rally past Community with a 12-point effort in the clutch.
Five free throws and a clutch 3-pointer proved key for Forrest, while Community could only muster up six points.
M.J. Simmons led the Viqueens with 11 points, while Zoey Dixon added eight.
Forrest’s Jayden Coleman matched Simmons’ effort with 11 points of her own to lead the winners.

MURFREESBORO — The Cascade Lady Champions fell behind MTCS in the first quarter on Monday night and never could recover in a 44-27 loss.
The Lady Cougars doubled up Cascade in the opening quarter and coasted off that momentum to the 17-point win.
Offense was a struggle for Cascade throughout the contest, with Bella Griffey being the lone Lady Champion to reach double figures.
She scored 12 points in the loss, while Ava Butts added eight.
MTCS was led by Mia Goins, who scored 11, while Rosie Davis, Elizabeth Smith, and Lilly Watson each added seven points.
