Hospital serves area well

To the Editor:

It’s no secret that rural hospitals are the backbone of our communities. Their ability to serve patients in a timely manner is incredibly important, especially when an emergency occurs.

As members of the Tennessee General Assembly, we are always looking at ways to improve access and the quality of our healthcare system so we can ensure we are meeting the needs of our citizens.

While the General Assembly continues to discuss this issue and pass legislation that will help lower costs and transform healthcare in Tennessee, Tennova Healthcare – Shelbyville has been a leader in providing excellent service to Bedford County.

Tennova Healthcare – Shelbyville has more than 300 employees, consists of a full service general acute care hospital, an urgent care clinic, pediatric clinic, five primary care clinics, orthopedic clinic, two general surgery clinics, outpatient wound care center, outpatient physical rehabilitation center, and an outpatient sleep center.

Through the commitment and selflessness of caregivers and staff, Tennova Healthcare is able to care for our community 365 days and nights each year. The men and women who work in our hospital are there to comfort those who are transitioning to their final days, and to also deliver the highest quality of care possible to all who utilize our facility.

Over the course of the last year, Tennova Healthcare – Shelbyville has touched over 108,000 lives, providing care for patients who were admitted to the hospital, those who utilized the emergency room or those who sought care on an outpatient basis.

With over 90 years of commitment to the residents of our county, Tennova has followed through on its promise to give back to the community. In 2018 alone, Tennova provided approximately $8.9 million in charity and uncompensated care for our neediest residents.

The facility has also been working with several local charities and community organizations like Shelbyville Rotary Club, Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, Paws for a Cause, Leadership Bedford and local sports programs to enhance our already strong community.

As our needs continue to change, it is encouraging to see that Tennova Healthcare – Shelbyville has renewed its commitment by hiring more physicians and more medical staff, investing in cutting edge medical equipment, and improving its facilities. These efforts guarantee our residents will continue to receive the services they need, close to home.

We urge the citizens of Bedford County to support the services of our local hospital and help them grow and thrive in our community. As members of the General Assembly, we are constantly bombarded by groups telling the state to get more done in healthcare. We agree, but we all need to use the services that are already available. Not only will this help them succeed, but they will be able to add even more local services.

Thank you to our Tennova Healthcare – Shelbyville leadership team and staff for all of your hard work and years of service. We are grateful for your passion to be “a place of healing, caring and connection for patients and families in the community we call home.”
