McConnell, Trump benefit from positions

To the Editor:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell receives a salary of $193,400 per year. He refuses to bring anything to the floor for a vote so why should we pay him for doing nothing? He even refuses to bring up a bill to prevent Russian meddling in our elections. McConnell listens to only one person and that is Donald J. Trump. He cares nothing about the American people.

Mr. McConnell has another perk which comes from his job. His wife, Elaine Chao, is the Secretary of Transportation and her salary is $199,700 per year. Wonder how she got her job? Combined, McConnell and Chao receive salaries of $393,100 paid for by taxpayers. Their combined weekly pay is $7559.69. Who would not take that kind of pay when many hard working people earn only $400 per week and their work is much harder?

McConnell gets many other perks and receives lots of money from lobbyists. He definitely is not out to help the working person but to enrich himself and his family.

We also have a president who is working very little but costing us a fortune. It is reported that Trump does not get to the office until 11 a.m., takes a one and one half hour break in the afternoon and quits work at 4 p.m. What a cushy job compared to past presidents who worked 14 to 16 hour days.

When Trump was running for office he claimed Obama played too much golf and if he got elected he would be too busy to play golf. How his plans have changed. Trump has played golf over 216 times in less than three years while Obama played golf 333 times in eight years. If we are so unfortunate to have Trump for two terms he would play 600 golf games at this rate. His golfing has cost us over 102 million dollars.

Trump has also spent over 280 days at his properties since being elected. It costs millions to operate Air Force One. When he goes to his properties taxpayers pay him for lodging, food, golf fees, golf carts, secret service, and expenses for all the people he takes with him. No wonder he wanted to be president, since it has been a vacation for him and his family.

At one time Republicans were the party of saving money and watching what was spent. Now they are the party of wild spending and waste. How much longer can we put up with these wasters?

  • Thank you Mr. Reed for your opinion which is felt by a whole lot of folks about these 2 men. DT didn't allegedly accept a salary because he knew he would benefit more of the tax payers money paying for his frequent golf trips and other trips and we are paying for his entourage (family) as well. He says hateful things which are filled with hatred and racism and is not called to the carpet for any of this disgusting rhetoric. He takes nepotism to a whole new level and nothing is done about it. Makes you wonder what dirt he has on his followers who condone and praise all the hatred he is spreading by not calling him on it. Due to his speeches and twitter posts, the folks that feel like he does about brown and black people, feel this gives them the right to take off their hoods and openly act violent towards them. They forget that he has secret service for his protection, they do not. I admit I do not know much about politics, but a blind person can see this is wrong on all levels. As for McConnell, how can they condone him stating that he would make sure nothing passes that Mr. Obama endorsed when he was president and allegedly said the same thing about Democrats today? That is not democracy, that is being a bully, dictator and abuse of power in my eyes yet nothing is done about him either. Folks better open their eyes and take it to the polls in 2020. If the former POTUS had done 1/3 of what this current POTUS has done and doing, he would have been run out of the White House. The really sad part is all this was known before he got the job and folks still endorsed him and voted him in office and still do. He got the job based on lies and he is still telling lies. This is my opinion and I am sticking to it as strongly as his supporters are sticking with him and his corrupt actions.
