Bedford County School System is continuing its free breakfast and lunch program at six school sites.

This is spring break, but many school officials are continuing to dedicate their time to make sure children do not go hungry during the time schools are closed.

The following locations are open for free breakfast and lunch:
Learning Way, Cascade Elementary, Community Elementary/Middle, South Side Elementary
, Eakin Elementary
and East Side Elementary.

Schools nutrition supervisor Janet Clarkson said, “We will be adding five buses to our distribution to try to reach children in the county that may not be able to make it to a school location. As soon as we have bus routes and distribution areas in place, we will communicate that information.”

To help limit exposure and continue social distancing, as of Monday, the school system will begin distributing meals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Multiple meals (2 lunch meals and 2 breakfast meals) per child will be distributed each day.

“It is our hope that this will limit exposure for all involved as well as make it easier on parents,” said Clarkson.
