Kim Collard and family celebrated her grandma Inez Collins’ 98th birthday at Glen Oaks Nursing Home last Saturday. This year, due to COVID-19 and the center being closed to visitors, family had to wish her happy birthday through her window.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the family can only look through the glass and visit over the phone. While it is hard for all who love “Grandma Nez,” they know it is for the best.

“We made posters and held up to her window and left her gift to be quarantined for 24 hours.”

“Grandma Nez” doesn’t always understand what’s going on outside, but this particular day, she knew her loved ones were there to wish her well.

Kim said their grandma is loved by so many; they wanted to make her big birthday celebration as memorable as possible. “Grandma Nez” lived with the family a few months up until dementia necessitated her move to Glen Oaks.

“We have struggled not being able to see her.  We understand it is for the best, but it has been difficult.”

Last year, “Grandma Inez” and the family took a ride, per her request, in a red convertible. Kim said she is in great hopes to have many more fun times with her loved one.

For her last birthday, “Grandma Nez” took a fun ride with her family in a red convertible. Family members hope that happens again in the future.
