One suspect has been arrested and a second remains at large in the shooting of two men, one fatally, Sunday afternoon outside Shelbyville.

Juan Antonio Lopez Juarez, 29, of Shelbyville was arrested Wednesday in Franklin by Bedford County detectives with assistance from Williamson County deputies and Franklin police, Detective Lt. Scott Jones said. Juarez is charged with homicide and attempted homicide and is being held without bond at Bedford County Jail.

Rolando Esquivel Garcia is still at large.

The suspects are accused of fatally wounding Juan Diego Frias Gutierrez, who was dead in the front yard of a Lower Halls Mill Road home from multiple gunshot wounds when deputies arrived, and seriously wounding Jose Angel Osuna Mendez, who was critically wounded in the chest and arm.

The shooting occurred during an argument between the men at the home they all shared, Jones said.

Juarez moved to Shelbyville from Williamson County approximately two months ago, according to Jones.

Investigators are trying to piece together details of what happened while dealing with an “extreme language barrier,” Jones said.
