  • A Billy Graham crusade was held at the Titans stadium some years ago. One of the preliminary events, a few months in advance of the crusade, was a men's rally held at the Grand Ole Opry House at which Zig Ziglar spoke. I went and covered that rally, and I and a couple of other people got to walk with Mr. Ziglar from the Opry House to the Roy Acuff Theater, which they were using as an overflow room, so that he could say hello in person to the overflow crowd before the rally got started.

It was a thrill to meet him. I wish I had a better story to tell about what he said or what he was like.

  • I have met him John and spent about 30-45 minutes just chatting, but not about his motivational career. (It seemed inappropriate at the time)

He was very similar to the persona we saw on stage, so I don't know if he had a toned down side to him or not. I cannot remember all the things we talked about (it was 10+ years ago) but I remember that he seemed intense yet calm about life in general.

As I recall. most of it was about our shared time in Mississippi, his wife and family. Nothing exceptional but I knew I was in the presence of an exceptional man.
