  • By the way, mantids and mantis are the same. I presume mantis is singular.

Here is a good shot of a mantis dining out. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://abbotlab.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/...

  • I don't suppose anyone has an 'extra' ripe tomato to share? All mine are still green...

  • By 'extra' ripe are you looking for seeds or just one to eat immediately? I've been eating those around lunch time. :-)

Our T's took a long time to ripen this year also. Even now, there are many on the plants but they are slow to ripen. If I get a chance I will try to find a reason for that.

Someone in the garden appreciated one of our tomatoes yesterday. Not sure who the culprit was but from the mess and method I would think a raccoon. I don't believe I have ever had that before but maybe the heat and humidity is causing them to look at all refreshment possibilities.

  • I blame the tree rats...they are getting all my pears before they ripen...I can't believe 3 squirrels have almost cleared a full tree...I wonder if a rubber snake will help...but it's not looking good for even getting one...geeze what do those varmits do with them all....

  • Somewhat off topic, but is the Farmer's Market still held on Thursday afternoons until 6 pm? Are there any farmers who accept wic vouchers who would be willing to meet with me before the end of the month? I don't get off work until after 6, and I always miss the actual FM :(

  • I have not heard of it disbanding and in fact, with many growers products coming in late this year, I would think they will push it as long as possible.

HOWEVER, I will check it out.

At last week's garden club meeting we were told of another CSA visiting the Shelbyville area out of Manchester. One of our members has a phone number for them, plus she knows the Farmer's Market here very well, so I will check with her.

She will NOT use a computer, even if it was given to her, so this comment will not reach her any other way than personal contact. Give me a little while.

  • By the way, I changed the information in the original post to avoid someone showing up tonight. NO MEETING TONIGHT.

We meet every other Friday until late Fall and we just had one last week.
