  • Not that I grow these as a crop, but I am busy harvesting dead trees for firewood. I used to drag the trees to a cutting spot on the edge of the yard, but that means cutting, loading a trailer, unloading and stacking or leaving the trailer near the house for unloading as necessary,

Since I will use all I harvest right now, I am just dragging the trees to where I will stack and handle it once. When it gets near the end of the season, I will probably go back to putting it on the trailer so I can move the remainder away from the house in Spring. (It helps move temptation for termites away from the house.)

We are finishing up our tomatoes and bitter melon picked just before the heavy frosts last week. I won't miss the bitter melon. :-)

The garlic sprouts are coming up nicely. I need to finish off the other side of the tub planter, then GET THE REST IN THE GROUND! Boy, I just can't seem to remember that last part!

I'll bring some garlic to the meeting tonight.

  • Chefgrape-I have your pecans but won't be able to make this meeting. I'll do my best to make the last one.

  • I'll try to nudge you QC.

Besides a good meeting we also enjoyed some great country ham on honey-butter biscuits and a scrumptious homemade pie. Not sure how we deserved such great treats but no one turned them down.

We all agreed to take a holiday break after the next meeting, but the re-start date was not set. Some wanted earlier than the last Friday in January so we have a little more discussing to do.

  • Mark, thanks for sharing the Country Ham; it's really tasty. I've frozen a bunch of it so we can enjoy it for a while.

Also thanks to those that brought me some garlic cloves; they're in the ground. That's planting a little late, but I think they will be fine.

If all goes as planned, I will bring my Floriani Red Flint Cornbread to the next meeting!

  • You did better than me Mark. Mine are STILL waiting on final planting.

I mentioned the Red Flint cornbread to my wife and she said that maybe she should make some chili.

Hmmm, we could make this last meeting a but of a pot luck, but no one should feel pressured to bring anything. What is brought is brought, just like last week. I am still working off that pie your wife brought. :-)

  • Chili sounds great; and anything else anyone wants to bring in. Barring something totally unforeseen, we'll be there with the Floriani cornbread... so feel free to announce that in the reminder that you post for the meeting.
