Thanks to those who showed up and for those who didn't, we missed you. Thank you also to Deidre our newest member for not only attending but contributing to our conversation. I forgot to ask the spelling of your name, so correct me if I got it wrong, (like you are really Betty) :-)
We have adopted a new format and schedule for the coming year. Time will tell if this is best, but for now we will meet the first Friday and Third Friday of each month at 6:30 P.M.
We will try to reserve the Ag Extension office for each "First Friday" (FF) so that we can have a semi-organized meeting with advanced topics chosen the month before. The next FF will discuss composting, new varieties of veggies and flowers for 2014, and since it will be after the average last frost, (May 2) what can be planted right away.
A door prize will be chosen from a library of books and there was a request to define what "growing organic means", the benefits, methods and pros and cons. Since that can be a pretty big topic, I suggest we make this a meeting of its' own. Although I have some experience in this area, I will see if we can get some other speakers.
The "Third Friday" (TF) will be more of a social garden meeting that could be held in various locations like restaurants, members gardens, the garden on the square, or even field trips. The next meeting (May 18th) will be held at a restaurant and barring any scheduling issue with the restaurant, it will be held at Legends in Shelbyville.
More details on that after we talk to the restaurant.
