Victoria Armstrong from Don Armstrong's Facebook page
Victoria might not be a well-known performer to many of you unless you were listening to the folk music back in the 70's or have become a lover of the genre that includes the Chad Mitchell Trio, Limelighters, maybe Linda Rondstadt and songs like "500 miles", "Early Morning Rain", Blowin in the Wind", "Four Strong Winds", and many, many more.
Kathleen from Arizona wrote to me this morning to let me know Victoria, known as Victoria Armstrong for most of her life, passed away last night. A more current photo and snippets from her life can be found on her husband Don's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/armstrong.dv?fr...
Listening to her sing on some of the YouTube recordings confirmed Kathleen's comment that she sang and "played music right to the end". "She was a very spiritual and special woman".
Readers here might know her from a post I made almost three and a half years ago ( http://www.t-g.com/blogs/stevemills/entry/36914/ ) when I happened on an album she made with Pat Garvey. Up until that time I was not aware of her talent but that album quickly made up for my error.
That blog brought several posts from across the country, as well as emails reliving the fond memories her music brought to their mind. I would bet it also is why I received the email from Kathleen, to whom I am very grateful. Her kindness allowed me to pay a small final tribute.
