There were many images to choose regarding D-Day. This one silently recreates the price pad by many. The water probably looked similar. http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/andy-moss-jamie-wardley-the-fallen
I was not born yet 70 years ago this evening at 11:30 Central time. But the invasion of the beaches in Northern France was about to shift into high gear.
I say high gear because many "behind the scene" battles in preparation for this day had already occurred, not that most knew what those actions were designed to do. Even though the Germans knew something was afoot, they guessed wrong when it came to where and when. (Thankfully)
Approximately 100,000 people were about to lose their lives plus many more injured within the days to follow and all because a few fanatical men had hijacked a nation and then kidnapped nations. Hitler was the catalyst and spearhead but he had help.
Regrettably some of that help came from the opposite side in the form of complacency, naivety, and a desire to placate the angry hunger of Naziism. Even though the German people fought this war for the Nazis, they too were victims of allowing the seed to take hold.
Have we learned. Maybe, somewhat, but without remembering the past (history) this could easily happen again. It is happening on smaller scales around the globe today. All that is needed to explode onto the World is to forget.
