  • I sure am ready to stop taking my plants in and out. On the bright side, there is no frost but WATCH OUT FOR TONIGHT. It is projected to be 39 degrees and they are just "practicing" weather forecasting so.....

I found a new batch of kittens last night. Not sure how many since Momma was not happy at all that I had discovered them. I would rather leave them alone for now and keep her from moving them someplace where wild animals can get to them.

Speaking of cats, anyone who has the and used one of these laser lights to drive them crazy will know what fun it is for all of us to play with it. Our cats can be asleep or in other rooms, but if I touch the laser light, they seem to know. I can't hear me do anything but somehow, THEY KNOW! Tonight we had five of them tripping over each other to chase something they can never catch.

Surprisingly, the youngest one Wendy is not overly obsessed. She chases casually and you would think the kitten in her would always be ready for play. She also prefers dry cat food to the canned, which the older ones LOVE, so who can figure?

  • I had just a little left of my smoothie and some lemon-lime seltzer water on my desk. Guess what I did? Yup, put them together.

I like it. Think I will experiment with that some more tomorrow.

  • There is a current posting on FB regarding backyard weeds and making supplements from them..............

How do these weeds taste, Steve ? Are the additional ingredients enough to make the smoothie delish ?

  • I have enough of the violets to feed the county I think. They are so invasive...

  • I was actually pleasantly surprised. It had a "green" taste but I don't think the weeds added more than the kale and collards.

I've had some smoothies that were overpowering with kale and cabbage taste. The protein powder added a little of a malt taste, so that might be cheating but it rounds out the nutritional value nicely.

My wife did not spit it out, (which is good for any smoothies that are not strictly banana, mango strawberry and pineapple), but she did not LOVE it.

I used about four leaves of each green mentioned, one banana, 6 large strawberries, a handful of blueberries, about 10 red grapes and that full scoop of protein powder.

That might be a great thing to demo at our next garden club meeting. I am used to carrying the Vitamix when I travel so it would not be a big thing.

    Watcha think?

  • This morning's smoothie added to to the list above. The added ingredients are 2 tablespoons of raw, organic coconut butter, 3 frozen raw, organic figs, 2 tablespoons of mango sorbet and 1 rectangle section of baker's chocolate.

Why? Well, I was just creating. I bought the baker's chocolate by mistake the other day and figured I better find something to do with it since I had no special culinary plans for it.

The result was great and slightly different so, a success. I had a pineapple planned, but did not need it and it was not quite ripe yet anyway.

    (Pause about 15 minutes)

I had to escort Olivia opossum out of our yard. PITA had apparently found her close-by and brought her to show me. She tried to impress me with her smile but we eventually came to terms.

Anyway, I had to refill my smoothie and coffee and I think the smoothie got even better with age. (30 minutes total)

  • Oh yes, I forgot to mention I also put a handful of mixed nuts. What can I say, I just throw things in. ;-)

  • You are very brave.......

  • I hope you are not referring to my smoothies?

Opossums are usually predictable, predictably stubborn. :-) This one I had to use the shovel (no hands, I respect those pearly whites) and a spray water bottle to keep it from just "playing possum" (playing dead)

Once she realized it was water, I swear she was using it to get a drink! Eventually she waddled off to the woods, but she'll be back. The are also persistent.

They usually run into the garage at feeding time with the cats and walk within a few feet of me as if they were one of the cats. I don't chase them and as long as they wait until the cats are done, "live and let live".

  • Actually I was referring to the smoothies...........

  • Hmmm, guess I better watch what I throw in there. :-)

Wish of good health to all of us garden warriors this weekend. It looks like a perfect string of days to get out, which means we will probably overdo it.

I am staring at an empty trailer just begging for composted woods chips. The truck is hitched and all it needs is me. Could be time to blow the work whistle.

I can't decide if I should mow or till the garden beds. LOL Probably both, but my intentions were to never till those beds again, forever!

Maybe I will mow, then put a few sheets of Times Gazette down and top it off with that composted wood chips. It would look good anyway.

  • I can't mow for awhile.......The birds are fledging and much too vulnerable.... Already too much death and destruction on FB......Don't want it in the yard.......

  • Steve, what happened to meeting the 1st Friday of the month? You know I am always lost. Your blog says we meet on the 8th. I'll be there.

  • Sorry for the slow response horsepoopperson (what a name!), but I am pretty sure I know who you are. :-)

You wrote after I started my weekend yard-work marathon and I did not get back on the computer until this morning. I got a lot done, and there is so much more to do but I decided I better do my computer stuff BEFORE I wear myself out, since I do NUTHIN afterwards.

Yes, last year we tried the first and third Friday but we still had confusion so we changed it to every other Friday to see what happens. I looked through the year's holidays and this particular cycle seems to avoid most of them for some reason.

We still plan to alternate every other meeting with a social or road-trip, so checking back on here will be a good idea. This next meeting will be at the Ag Extension office and the one where we get on the computer to share and research.
