  • Thankfully we have not had them up for a house fire but several times over the years they have come to check out a strange "smell" from our heater, haul my butt out of the house when I had a medical event, and come to babysit a burning tree in our woods.

All turned out OK, but any one of them could have been catastrophic. The burning smell was never isolated for sure but all think it was a piece of insulation plastic that got too close to a heating conduit. Never a real fire hazard, but thought it wise we called.

In their search for an answer they even used a heat sensor to check our breaker box and plugs.

The medical event? Just an ongoing saga. Hmmm, maybe I need to write a final blog in case I am still writing when the blessed event occurs.

The tree? They came twice since it re-flared a few days later. This time Wartrace helped out because a four-wheel drive tank truck was needed to get up close and personal with the stump.

A word of caution for anyone going through this. Even after the log and broken limbs were soaked, we found a very hot bed of coals inside a large portion of the trunk that had been shielded from all the "rain" they brought.

The last part of the saga was fighting a brush, leaves and grass fire that headed toward the house. Thankfully a rain came the next day and soaked all other combustible stuff near the tree and it smoldered until death.
