  • Does anyone have a few gourd seeds for a bird house they would share with me.....I have a project in mind....like a bird house......I guess I should wait to plant them in the spring!....I wonder if they need full sun?.....I better read up on them and possibly see which ones I'm thinking about.....I pretty sure they the ones on my brain are those on poles used for Martins!.....I have seen as many as a dozen on a pole structure thingy resembling a tv antenna with birds flying and nesting in them...Surely those gourds grow well here I've seen pictures and use to see a few structures in back yards around here when I was a kid.....hope I wasn't just dreaming!.....It has happened you know!.....Am I dreaming this or is that what folks use to do to control part of the flying insect population.....I already have a lot of bats diving around my back light at dusk!...They can eat all of the mosquitos they want!

  • I have Swan Gourds you can have when done, but they are not exactly what you are seeking. Don't have the normal bottle gourds.

You might get a would get a crop if planted yesterday, but it would be tight so Spring would be better. Yes on the sun. If shaded you might get nice plants but few/small gourds.

I could easily be wrong but I think Martins want a body of water in the vicinity where they get a lot of their food. They will do well with open area to maneuver. Not sure if they feed among trees, buildings, etc.

  • I'll be bringing most of the squash you see in the picture, so if you want to sample something, come by. You may have to half it with someone else,so bring a baggy or plastic wrap to carry it home.

I have it on good sources that there might me some home baked oatmeal cookies and brownies there too.
