Part of "The Cabin" restaurant in Lousiana
Cornbread is exactly what stimulated this post and I am HAPPY to get back on topics more to my liking, in this case taste buds.
My wife made some cornbread the other day and I grabbed a few pieces this morning for breakfast. Mmmmm, one of the best I ever had, but there is more to the story and memories.
We got the recipe during a trip we made with my parents in the late 80's to Southern Louisiana. While restaurants usually protect their recipes, the owner/manager of "The Cabin" in Burnside Louisiana was gracious enough to share it with us. She hand-wrote it so I doubt it was something she shared freely.
I just had to compliment her over and over and she said it was actually a recipe handed down from local plantation servants around the Sunshine Bridge. In fact, part of the restaurant is from servant's quarters. Read about it here. http://www.thecabinrestaurant.com/about-us/
I'm glad to find they are still open. Not sure if the same owners since this was about 30 years ago.
