It is like I said in one of your other blogs, "Isis can hang their weapons on their living room wall because we have brain dead Americans doing their campaigning for them.

This act was no worse than some of the things I saw the left do at Trumps rallies and in those famous women's marches. Some were very graphic signs.

What this young lady did was worse than what the Black Lives Matter did, because she did it against the POTUS. This would be a reason for a visit from the CIA if any normal American citizen did this. It would be considered a threat to the POTUS, which carries a life sentence in federal prison.

Of course we have to realize that she most certainly is a Hillary Supporter, and those people don't get arrested.

If that had of been Hillary's head, the news media wouldn't stop talking about it. I think that is what she thought would happen with Trumps head.

However, everything is okay now BECAUSE she apologized publicly. I say once you done it there is no need to try to make people think you are sorry for doing it or saying it. You are only sorry for getting caught or making yourself look horrible.

I said it years ago when I was still just a young whippersnapper, If they would stop reporting on the bad news, there would be a lot less bad things happening.

Once it is reported, it has to continue through all the States.

Here is the horrible truth! They can not arrest someone for a crime they haven't committed yet unless there is proof they have planned a crime, but even that is questionablen because people can change their mind. So until the crime is committed, nothing can be done to stop what you don't know about. THAT IS WHERE WE ARE IN AMERICA TODAY!

Once the crime has been committed, then they can go and arrest or kill the criminal who done it so they can't do it again.

TODAY, the left is encouraging hate against the President and his supporters and anyone who agrees with the right. They can't be arrested because they have only spoke about it.

BUT, look at what the left has already done! They have turned Protests into riots with criminal acts, and no one does anything.

If the law enforcement officers can't do anything about Protesters gone Bad, Why would you put any trust in them protecting you from Isis or any Isis sympathizer? Not Going To Happen!

Unless the left stops their hate speech against the right, and violating the rights of the people, there will be no peace in this country. The left speaks out against all white people calling them white supremacists and white privileged, without looking around at all the white supremacists and white privileged that are leftist! That shows us just how brain dead the left is. They will eat their own. Hillary proved that and still proving it with her HATE SPEECHES.

The news medias will continue reporting what they want to make news when there is no news and to sell the paper and advertising.

And so the US will continue on as is until the real beast comes up out of the sea, unless?

  • A friend whom I know does not see eye to eye with me on politics wrote to me privately to point out some treatment Mr. Obama received that rivaled what has happened here. Effigies of President Obama being hung and some of him being burned.

I am not sure where I was or if I ever viewed these things, but they should have and I would have been as horrified with them as I am with this current tasteless act. I pray that NEITHER are truly indicative of our society and I condemn them wherever they originate.

As many of you know, I don't even like these posts to get personal or nasty, so I sure would not approve any acts that depict violence and hatred of ANYONE. While I do not agree with militant terrorists, I would not want us to fall to such depths of inhumanity that we have to make a statement by mimicking death and torture of any living thing.

That's old news, Steve. CNN is now reporting that Trump is gaining weight! (Unnamed source, of course.) Stop the presses!!! I doubt the press will get tired of it, nor will the freedom hating idiots on the left. They have pretty well lost their collective mind. (Collective--haha) But the normal people are already tired of it. They are going to keep pushing and keep pushing and keep pushing until they are way beyond the point of civility; then they will have to be forcibly put back in their place in a real society.

  • Obamas daughters had problems also with photos of look a like Obama figures hung and burned, but did not see this much concern. An 11 year old boy should not even be on social media .Trump did not think about his son being affected when he referred to women with"grab them by the p****".He did not worry about his son being affected when he told his supporters at a rally to "knock the h*** out of a man and the man did just that.Trump never apologized and he should be ashamed using his son for sympathy.Griffin apologized and that is enough.

Sui what leverage do you think Russia has over Trump? He is going to reward Russia and give them back the Diplomatic Compounds in Maryland where I am sure they planned the interference in our election.

Seems ole Sessions lied under oath, the FBI is looking into a third possible meeting with Kislyak he forgot to mention. Why would they hide so called innocent meetings?

Shame on you lbur for using the G word. She and her career need to fade off into the sunset. If you want to talk about presidential kids, lil ms Clinton had it easy. Good thing for her since she was so ugly. Still is. Which is why guys that get oral favors from her actually count it as something else. She's just that butt-ugly. To b o's credit, at least he and the baby mama(s) had pretty girls.

  • I must be getting my news in the right places. I have only seen 3 articles about the severed head deal. The first was that she apologized. The second that Trump criticized her. And the third that CNN severed ties with her.... And only 1 about Tiger, simply saying he was charged with DUI, but had passed the breathalyzer. I have to admit that I do not seek out celebrity news.

But, isn't this whole furor just an extension of our national obsession with celebrity? As someone else pointed out, equally offensive actions were routine during the Obama administration, and received scant attention. But, the perpetrators were not "celebrities." Bush, Clinton, Reagan, I don't remember a President that was not subjected to similar abuse. Of course, all the others followed the wisdom of "not dignifying" the acts with a response. Trump lacks that class.

I am on record here as not having much use for celebrity political commentary. I really could care less about the political opinions of musicians, actors, singers, or ball players... nor comedians. But I don't think I would go so far as to wish them a career failure. (I would just rather they shut up.)

In this case, I am sure the extreme repellence of the act can be used to justify that sentiment. But, I have to tell you Fare, your last offering here was every bit as bad, and totally unwarranted. If I were monitoring these blogs, I would probably consider permanently banning you. I think it is the first time I have seen something that warrants Steve completely removing his post, unless the TG spots it and removes it first. I know you are better than that, but just like the subject of the blog, you put it out there without really thinking it through. The internet can make a fool of any of us.

-- Posted by lazarus on Thu, Jun 1, 2017, at 11:31 AM
  • Amen Lazarus! I wrote several responses to fair share and zapped each one because of "biting" the proverbial tongue.

I've asked for permission before to remove certain comments. I was told they would not curtail free speech unless THEY thought it crossed the line.

Stuff like this has tempted me several times to just stop but I feel you should have an ability to express yourself on things important to you.

Sometimes it is equally important to me, like this, but even FS can't retract that so my choices are limited. I try hard to not pull any more posts. Maybe the T-G will step in before I decide.

-- Posted by stevemills on Thu, Jun 1, 2017, at 11:49 AM
  • Intentional or not, I think he brings home an important point. Any of us, in the age of the internet, can hit "send" on something we really do regret. And I think we should take that into consideration before condemning someone over a single "post." It could be us some day.

That doesn't mean I will enjoy her particular entertainment any more than I did before. But, I am inclined to just accept her apology and move on with my life.

Ok guys. I am sorry that my words have caused you hurt. I really thought about what I wrote before I hit send. I thought then, and still do, that the wording is sufficiently vague as to not cross the line. Sure seems vague enough to allow for more than one interpretation of my implication. With the reaction, it is pretty clear there is only one interpretation of your inference. Again, I am sorry that the way in which I put my thoughts into words has apparently caused your feelings to be hurt.

Yes, now she is in her awkward adult days. Tho she is somewhat better now. Main problem is she's too much like her mama. Shame she didn't turn out more like Aunt Monica. And by that, I mean mostly keeping out of the limelight.

Don't be so hard on lil ms Clinton. She has had a hard life living with Bill and Hillary. She has had to listen to all those stories about the women Bill molested and raped and Hillary with her Demonic attitude and personality. When you think about it, she turned out pretty good. As far as being ugly, who are we to judge the beauty in the eyes of her beholder somewhere?

She has begun to see what Hillary and the left has done and turning against her momma's witchcraft.

Have you seen her Momma lately? She looks as Evil as the devil must look, in her face. Her daughter had to live with that all her life. Hopefully, she won't be like her Momma!

  • Glad Ivanka didn't take after her papa.Good thing his kids took after his many baby mamas.Trump is gaining weight and looking unhealthy, must be because he thinks exercise is unhealthy. He had to take a golf cart to a meeting in Germany while everyone else walked.

Sui give me a good reason why Trump would try to block Comey from testifying since you say he has nothing to hide? Get the popcorn ready for Thursday.

And you were right about"all those stories about Women Bill molested and raped",that is just what they were ,stories. Those women were willing adults who were looking for fame and fortune and became angry when it did not happen.

    Lets Be Real,

Trump is gaining weight! Is THAT your BIG Story for the day? Had to take a Golf cart! Was it bullet proof like the one the Pope rides in? Was that provided for him or did he have to demand a cart to ride on? You are leaving so many details out and filling the blanks in with your own thoughts.

I can't think of ANY reason why Trump would block Comey from testifying. You are talking about the fake news media stories. Comey has all the answers by now to the Hillary emails and Who Hacked their emails. Oh Well, Thursday will come and go and we won't know anything more than what we know today! You see, this is Congress asking the questions and they don't do anything about anything after they get their questions answered.

It is a waste of time and money. All the taxpayers need to open their wallets and start shelling out the big bucks for a good laugh. They should at least ask for a receipt for their taxpayer donations!

That is so easy to say when it wasn't you! A few comments back you condemned Trump for saying women wanted rich and famous or powerful men grabbing and touching them. Now it is all just stories because the women Bill Raped (not grabbed) didn't get anything out of it. They did get something out of it. They got threatened by Hillary the Devil Woman.

Who knows what they might have gotten from slick Willy? Sui, don't get down-hearted about what we may or may not know by Thursday. Heck, we might know if Trump gained any more weight or not. Wait, on second thought, no we won't. Even if the LSM reports it, they will cite anonymous sources. So we won't know any more than we did before they started yapping about that nonsense. Back on topic now. Seems as tho the unnamed redhead is following hilarity's plan of blaming everyone but herself. Now if CNN would get rid of Anderson Pooper (in reference to his comment about Trump pooping on the desk in the Oval Office) also, I would give them 1 or 2 points. Still wouldn't watch them except for briefly and rarely for the laugh value.

  • If Comey had Trump on tape saying stop the investigation and let Flynn go or worse,Trump worshippers would justify it in some way.

Trump and his worshippers made a big deal about Hillary's health during the campaign, now I guess they have forgotten all about it.

I see Sui and Fair only watch Faux news, which is not a real news station. Please watch real news stations, there are several of them.

With Trumps approval rating 37%,only his 38% worshippers believes him anyway. With a rating this low the GOP will start running from him.

How long are republicans going to use Hillary as a reason for Trumps failures? Keep talking and tweeting Trump your hole is getting bigger each day.He just gave the courts a gift today by calling his immigration plan a "TRAVEL BAN"

Remember this is the man who saw Muslims on top of buildings cheering during 9/11 that no one else saw.First he said he saw it from his apartment then the story changed to "I saw it on the news" which was false. The only fake news is coming from the white house.

"your hole is getting bigger each day" lbur

Sounds like you are talking about Your hole. The one in your head. From which dribbles the common sense God blessed you with. Since Trump isn't failing I'm not seeing anyone blaming hitlery for it. She has brought more than enough blame on herself. As far as the travel ban goes, I just can't understand why the libs are so hell-bent on not just not fighting back, but even enabling and empowering the mooslims to kill us. Do you not see what is going on in England? Or do you just think they won't do it to us? I know, you probably think we deserve it. England, France, Germany, etc have shown us what to expect from allowing uncontrolled muslimry to run rampant amongst us. If we don't see that, understand that, and act appropriately upon that, then maybe you are right. Maybe we do deserve it.

Perhaps you should exercise your A2 right to protect yourself. Get one and carry. Remember, people can (or at least should be able to) do better for themselves than government can do for them. Regardless of who is running the government. But, since you follow the standard liberal party line of avoiding personal responsibility, take heart. Trump will protect you. Despite the legislate-from-the-bench liberal judiciary.

-- Posted by fair share on Mon, Jun 5, 2017, at 9:43 PM
  • Who is Trump going to protect? Comparing the security in the US against a terrorist attack to that in Europe essentially shows that we have almost zero protection. Guess what. His "travel ban" will not change that at all. His criticisms of other governments, considering that he has done absolutely nothing, is a joke.

To have some understanding, you need to consult a couple of handy references; a globe and a history book. In the US, we have about 1% moslems. In Europe as a whole, the population is 8% moslem. As a matter of fact, there are several countries in Southeastern Europe that are majority moslem. In France, moslems make up 10% of the population. How can that be? Remember colonialism? People did not just move one way, when Europe was dominating the world. Europe has not had a homogenous population since the dark ages.

In looking at the issue of terrorism in Europe, there are two facets to consider. First is responding to and preventing the terrorist attacks themselves. Let me tell you. You cannot swing a dead cat in Europe without hitting a security person, especially in the large cities. Armed troops are ever present, and every "event" has uniformed security in evidence at all times. Everything possible is done to prevent terrorist attacks. But, the truth is, if someone just wants to wreak havoc (without the caveat that they escape with their lives) you cannot prevent it. All you can do is have a quick response. In London, all three terrorists were dead less than 8 minutes after the attack began. Do you think we could do better if a couple of lunatics decided to attack the crowd coming out of a Predators game?

The second part is trying to cut it off at the roots. That is the real challenge here. If only it were so simple as stopping all the refugees. Unfortunately, it is not the refugees who are fomenting the terrorism. It is citizens who have been there for generations. That is the real issue for Europe. How do these extremist organizations appeal to these particular people? I have my own thoughts about it. But that is for another post, if you care to hear them.

The thing that complicates it is that we are talking about a population of about 56 million moslems in Europe. The problems come from a miniscule handful. Not even a measurable percentage.

I already know the ready response. It is only the moslems, so even if only 1 out of a million is a problem, we can solve the problem by getting rid of all of them. But, it isn't really only the moslems that effect our safety. Do you know how many more workplace rampages we have than terrorist attacks in the US? Wouldn't we all be safer if we locked up everyone who lost their job? Or would that be crazy, because nearly everyone we punished would have done nothing wrong?

-- Posted by lazarus on Tue, Jun 6, 2017, at 4:57 AM
  • But, what I really admire about the response to the terror attacks over her is the refusal to give in. They will not cower in their homes in fear. They will not change their way of life. They will not turn on their neighbors. They will not give the terrorists what they want.

only ONE national leader in the free world is calling for people to live in fear. And that does not seem to me to be much of a leader.

-- Posted by lazarus on Tue, Jun 6, 2017, at 8:20 AM
  • *

Hmmmm. Live in fear and do something to protect yourself or don't live in fear and keep doing the same ole same ole til they exterminate you or turn you into a muslim. What to do, what to do?

-- Posted by fair share on Tue, Jun 6, 2017, at 10:31 AM
  • When a leader calls for fear against your neighbor, this has caused harm to innocent people who some think don't "look american".

Having a leader that goes after everyone that says something he does not like is childish and shows no class.Say what you want about Obama but he never went after anyone even after being called a monkey, saw hanging images of him on fire, wife and children insulted and images of him in a bloody suit with bullet holes. No one was fired, and some who called for his death and Hillary's got invited to the white house by Trump. This sends a bad signal to some that this is okay.

-- Posted by lets be real on Tue, Jun 6, 2017, at 12:17 PM
  • "Exterminate?" Are you aware how miniscule the threat is of being killed in a terrorist attack, even in the countries with the most attacks? And how is it they are going to "turn you into a moslem?" Do you search your closet every night for a pod that is going to replace you?

But, the biggest question mark is for what you think is being done to protect you? The travel ban would not have stopped the terrorist attacks we have had before. So how will it stop them in the future? Real protection is not just doing whatever feels good. It is doing something that will be effective.

-- Posted by lazarus on Tue, Jun 6, 2017, at 12:53 PM
  • I would be interested in reading ideas in what would be effective.

Laz, since you travel out of the country a lot, you may not be aware, but a sizable group of muslims have been at war with us and the rest of the world for a while. Their goal is to take over the world. If they succeed, there will be no non-muslims. The former non-muslims that don't convert will be killed. Now, I understand this is unlikely to be completed in my lifetime. But the longer we wait to stop them, the harder it will be. As far as effective ways to stop them, keep in mind they are willing to die to accomplish their goals. The only way to stop them is eliminate them. Send them on to their 72 Virginians. Granted, as we eliminate the "radical" muslims, more of the "moderates" will decide they will follow islam after all and therefore will also need taken care of. I would be tickled pink if the muslims would honestly denounce the koran's instructions to convert or kill us. But I have no rose colored glasses, and while I was born at night, it wasn't last night. If someone tells me they are going to kill me, I tend to believe them and I think I have the right to defend myself by killing them first. But,hey, that's just me.

  • What she did was beyond horrible, the fact that trumps young son had to be exposed to it, unforgivable !!! That being said I find it sad that the people who are screaming about this latest horror and it terrifying effects on his son were silent for 8 years while the Obama girls were exposed to mannequins of THEIR FATHER hanging from trees on fire, and to numerous to list examples of the racist and hate filled references to their family and themselves. Many of you posting here were silent all those years and some even fed into the evil, but are now quick to condemn.

Your words are empty if your only now speaking out against the evil hate being spewed in this country against these innocent children. You should be ashamed - but I know your not. Just because the girls were black and Democratic children does not lessen the horror they felt at the same actions towards their father.

Seems he told his associates that back in March that Trump asked him and Pompeo to intervene with Comey on the Russia probe,in other words end it Now that makes 2 more people backing up Comey.

Trump is upset with Sessions who stated he would resign if Trump is unsatisfied with him.Another one might bite the dust.

Trump is still insulting our allies with his tweets. The only way his aides could stop him would be to cut off his little fingers.

Fox News is the only news to watch if you want to know what the truth is. The rest of the news media will put anything in the news then try to make it sound like it's true without talking to the people they are talking about.

You should keep watching your MSM news so you can keep up with the left.

The left is talking like all Muslims are evil. Trump, like myself have said over and over again that the "Radical" Muslims are the evil ones and should be vetted before coming into our country. Muslims is not a religion! Why does the left keep calling the Muslims a "Religion". Muslims are a "race". Islam is the "Religion". Muslims study several different religions, so what religion is being violating? Islam isn't even a religion! It is a law... Shariah!

That looks like Islam is an illegal law in this country, just like Obamacare is an unlawful Tax and not an insurance at all! The Supreme court ruled that Obamacare is a Tax. That means it is a Tax legislated by the congress, who can only legislate for federal citizens and government employees. It can not create common law. When legislating for the citizens of these united states it must do so with constitutional limitations and restrictions.

The Constitution does not apply to the people! It is the law of the land that tells the federal government and States what they are allowed to do and not do. It does not say the people can not do something nor does it say the people have to do something. No, it controls the government and the States.

All this Constitutional crap doesn't stop the people from doing anything, only the states and the "Immigrants, who are Federal Citizens". You see, the U.S. Constitution PROTECTS your Rights from the Governments!

What are Trumps Failures, lbur? I wasn't told of any of his failures. He has only been set back by a bunch of stupid braindead Demoncrats. Did you by any chance hear Bill Clinton say this country needed to protect our borders and stop terrorists from coming in? Of course not! You only watch MSM Fake News!

Even the department of Homeland Security says we can not vet all the Syrian Muslims coming into our country and need to stop them from coming in until they can control them.

Trump has already done more to help this country than Obama did in 8 years, and that is with the Demos making up lies everyday to hinder him, yet he keeps on going like the energizer bunny.

Everyone with any sense can see that all those stories the left come up with are just a stupid as they are, that is how you know where they came from.

The leftist protesters who are against Trump are now bringing weapons to their protests, urr I mean Riots. They are now being arrested for rioting.

Leftist Kathy Griffin, made her show and it back fired on her and now crying because Trump has ruined her life. Now that is how the left looks at their failures. It is all Trumps fault. Trump doesn't have the time to do all those things he is accused of.

Now we find out that the leaker was a Trump Hater. What! Another leftist Demo? Yeahs only this one will get some time out of it. There goes most of your stories you had against Trump!

The BIG One you keep harping on is Mr. James Comey! He is turning out to be a big wuss. Why would Comey tell his superiors that he isn't going to say anything about what Trump told him? That only makes Comey guilty of knowing something he isn't wanting to talk about, making him guilty of obstruction of Justice for not reporting it when it happened. Comey has put himself in deeper than Trump. Comey can't say anything against Trump without criminating himself, unless he gets immunity against prosecution, but then, all Trump has to do, if he is guilty, is invoke executive privilege, just like Obama did for Holder in Fast and Furious.

Trumps tweeting got him elected as our new POTUS, so why would he stop speaking to his people. The whole world can read his tweets, so what is the problem? Our allies are happy with what Trump is doing. The idea that Trump would offend the Muslim world just shows you how stupid the American Demos really are. trump made a hit over seas in the middle east and around the world. Even Putin tells it like it is. He sees how stupid the left is.

Our colleges are teaching Stupidity by the stupid brain dead professors. Even the college faculties are so stupid that they are letting the students tell them what to do.

What about that leftist group, the "Black Lives Matter"? They are wanting to segregate the black from the white. Weren't they the ones who said Trump was taking them back to the racist days? Looks like the Black are using reverse racism to segregate the blacks from the white.

What? Too Late to do that Now!

There are too many black and white married couples and children to segregate them from their own families. And you Demos thought Trump was going to remove the Mexican parents from their children, yet you say nothing about the reverse racism going on today in the good Ol USA. Maybe that is because even the white students, etc. are barring from their celebrations.

Or the unconstitutional racist against their white wives and children of the "Black Lives Matter" Black Supremeist.

They claim the government is white supremeists, yet they don't mind getting the benefits from the white supremeist government agencies. What happened to the segregation of black and white. I don't think they realize that a lot of white people won't mind that one bit. It is like bringing the old days of slavery back. If they segregate the white from the black, who wins? Is that Stupid or what?

In England they are under common law. No laws to obey! They do what they want. Now with the Muslims in their country, Shariah Law is being used a lot. That means the women are under Shariah Law and have no rights. Even the local women lose their rights under Shariah law. It's coming soon to a town close to you. The US Women sure aren't going to like losing their rights to the Muslims Shariah laws. Oh well, that is what they are protesting for. They want equal rights for everyone, including the Radical Muslims which will bring their Islamic Shariah law because it is their religion.

Now I heard that the Kurds are winning the battle in RAGGA and soon will have the Isis killed in that headquarters and caliphate. Notice with the Muslims and Kurds doing the fighting, we don't have any prisoners. They are either killed or ran off. Hopefully they are killing all of them. We have several hundred boots on the ground helping so they should exterminate all of them. The problem is, it is in Syria, so Russia could be bombing our troops over there.

However, by killing all the cock roaches, that will eliminate a lot of Isis asking for help from home grown terrorist.

Trump is doing a lot everyday to bring jobs back to America and create jobs. That will eliminate a lot of disgruntled workers and fired employees.

If the Demos will just sit back and leave Trump alone to do his job, things will get back to normal.

Comey on the other hand is getting in deeper and deeper on his own. Violating Civil Rights and Sovereign Rights.

I think an 11 year old boy who can't go anywhere without a few CIA Agents around him, shouldn't worry about some TV show. Look at all the horror movies that are Box Office Hits that children love to watch. The gorier the better they like it. However, Kathy Griffin listened to and was inspired by the Demo Leftist and thought she would be a hit with them. It back fired on her and so she blames Trump and his... WHAT? His Tweets! He allegedly destroyed Ms Griffin with a tweet, and all of you think his Tweets are stupid and senseless. Trump knows how to do things.

I was here during Obama's terms and I never say any of those things you have described. Those were Racist so I don't see how the Senate never put a stop to it. All I heard from the Senate and House is RACIST, RACIST, RACIST. Anything said or done was Racist.

Again, Obama's girls were older than Trumps boy, but surrounded by CIA Agents everywhere they went. Nothing to fear but fear itself.

Maybe they should pass a law that says anyone with children can not run for president because it might cause problems for their children.

Is the whole country going STUPID? I thought it was only about 75% of the American People.

Come on Sui. Don't be so hard on the MSM. How else would we know when Trump is gaining weight? I'll bet lbur and her comrades missed some interesting news yesterday since it was on Fox. They aired footage from a street journalist's phone cam. They filmed CNN filming a "protest". Caught on camera CNN directing the whole thing. Since there were only about 12 protesters, they were showing them where to stand so it looked like a big crowd. When they were properly positioned they were handed the signs to hold. If you listen carefully you can almost hear the director saying "lights, camera, action ". Well, maybe the libs will see it if PBS picks it up and runs it as a how-to documentary. Doesn't really matter tho. I'm sure they would holler A1/freedom of the press. Not realizing the difference between a free press reporting actual news vs hack "journalism" committing fraud on the gullible feeble-minded public.

Of course, I saw it too because it was on Fox, the only news channel worth watching if you want the news.

The Demos will do anything to make up a lie about Trump.

The bad thing about it, is, they actually believe their own lies! They live the part. Talk about Zombies!

Now they will have to make another short film explaining what they were doing with their casting. Did you notice if they were given guns and knives, bricks or sticks to show off in their riot?

  • Hey Steve; I see the page has filled with wild ravings while I was away. Back to your question;

Dealing with the terrorist attacks is really a two part problem. The immediate issue is dealing with the actual attacks, both in terms of detecting them in advance and actually stopping them once underway. Frankly, I think the evidence shows that "we", and by "we" I mean the Western world, have been pretty effective on that end. The big plots seem to be a thing of the past. The best that the terrorists can produce are these quick strike attacks, like driving a vehicle into a crowd or that sort of thing. Frankly, no one can completely stop that sort of spontaneous attack. There are too many targets to defend them all. Government claims to have stopped such attacks are unprovable, but I am inclined to believe they are effectively thwarting any real plotted attacks, because of the small scale of those which continue. Once the attacks do begin, the police/security forces have been shutting them down more and more effectively.

The real issue is how we stop this radical ideology from spreading to new potential attackers. The first thing to consider here, is that we are not a ground zero for this stuff. The whackadoodles are killing more moslems than they are us. This is a much bigger problem for the moslem countries than it is the West. And we are, indeed, allied with some of those countries in this struggle. Of course, no one is allying themselves with us out of altruism. Any allies we have are looking out for their own interests first (as are we). Sometimes that leads to confusing situations, like the recent coalition of Arab countries against Qatar. Now, all of those countries, including Qatar have radicals among their populations. And I have no doubt that they all also have radical sympathizers within their government... But, is Qatar officially harboring terrorists? I do not know. But, I do know that the Saudis and Qatar have other issues. The Middle East is too confusing for experts to be absolutely sure of anything, way out of reach for people like us.

When it comes to the radicals and their attacks in the West, the first thing I believe would help would be a drastic reduction in news coverage. That is their life blood. As emotionally impacting as these attacks are, they are insignificant. The only purpose served by the attacks is getting the media attention, and the emotional response. As repellent as those attacks are to us, they undoubtedly appeal to the mentally unstable people who are being recruited to carry them out. I don't know if you realize it or not, but Russia has more moslems (about 22 million) than the rest of Europe combined. We are talking about 15% of their population. They have had a terrorist problem, which they tried to solve with brutal force (Russia has never been accused of being soft) and that paid off with more and more attacks capped by the Beslan School Massacre in 2004. Arguably, Russia's terrorist problem differs in one major way. They actually occupy the formerly moslem majority countries that are producing the terrorists.

The thing that stands out, in looking at a list of Islamist terrorist attacks, is that they did not really get started until the 1970's, and were not that significant until the 2000's; specifically after 9-11-2001. Can it be a coincidence that the most highly publicized terrorist attack in history immediately preceeded a spike in terrorist attacks?

Laz, I would have to agree with you that it would help to cut down or out the publicity. If we can get past the pesky first Amendment then how do we stop the spread of the news in the digital world?

-- Posted by fair share on Wed, Jun 7, 2017, at 4:34 PM
  • I too agree that publicity is a BIG factor. In an age before the internet and Facebook I would have proposed news agencies refuse to publish the name of the perpetrator but now it could probably not be controlled. Minimized if not on the nightly news or newspapers but not controlled completely.

  • I am not even thinking of eliminating coverage. We need a free press, more now than ever. But there are subtle changes that might make a difference.

I am irritated every time the planners of these attacks get such loaded descriptions as the "mastermind" of the attack. It does not take a genius to rent a truck and run it into a crowd. How about a little more focus on mental illness, and less on "terrorist" connections. It is a lot more appealing to be labeled a martyr than a kook. And there is certainly no reason to cast the perpetrators in anything that could be taken as a positive light.

Other possibilities exist to change the narrative. There is a shortage of hero stories. From the first call in London last week, in less than 8 minutes the whackos were both dead. That is pretty dam impressive. And what about the 5 foiled "plots?" You know the police don't look in a crystal ball and divine that someone has come up with the idea of renting a truck and driving it into a crowd. Either the planner has spilled something about their intentions to someone, who promptly passed the intel along to the authorities, or someone has put two and two together from the actions/words of an acquaintance (or even a friend.) I would bet that every foiled plot is the result of information received from someone who is a moslem. Don't forget that the whackos are causing a lot more problems for (and killing a lot more of) other moslems. Maybe the authorities do not want to give away too much of their tactical planning, or turn informants into targets, but surely there is a way of putting the spotlight on the good guys for a change. Positive news stories certainly helped public morale during WWII, and were achieved without revealing too much information. And we are in a "war." But it is not "us" against moslems. It is us, including moslems, against the whackos. It is a war where there is no territory to gain or lose, and the casualty counts are trivial. Ironically, both the anti-moslem forces and the whackos have the same goal. They wish to drive a wedge between the population as a whole, and the moslems segment.

  • I think you made good points and observations Lazarus. Compared to all out war, the casualties are small, but I hope you meant the loss of life was small compared to what has happened in the World Wars and others, not trivial. Right?

Concentrating on the positive would be better and you are right, the perpetrators are mentally/emotionally unstable, so making them seem like martyrs or great strategic planners fuels the fire.

I regret that their lives have been so devoid of purpose that they see death as a way of improving their conditions based on their belief of a reward in the afterlife. I too believe there is reward in the afterlife, but not for killing/injuring others.

    lets be real,

You worry too much about Trump! You should say a prayer or two maybe more for James Comey after what he said today.

He admitted being one of the Leakers and pretty much named his leaker companion.

Hillary isn't out of the water yet. Now with Comey out and maybe going to prison, but I doubt it because he is a Democrat, Hillary will come back in the News for what she done.

Nothing seems to be linking Trump to the Russia spying, it was all done by Hillary's server and the DNC's emails.

James Comey buried himself. He should have taken the 5th like all the other Demos.

-- Posted by sui on Thu, Jun 8, 2017, at 3:26 PM
  • Yes. I said the casualty *count* was trivial. 1,500 to 2,000 people die every day in England. The work of the terrorists is not moving the needle. That does not mean the deaths are insignificant. Meaningless deaths are always a tragedy.

I keep hearing about Russia spying which is interesting and as good a way as any to pass the time, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why no one is talking about o'bummer spying not only on Trump but thousands of Americans for years. Instead of toning it down after being reprimanded by the FISA court he ramped it up the past few years!

Back to solutions to the terrorism problem, one thing that could help would be getting over the need to act PC. While certainly not a final solution, it could get us down the road a bit. Seems like most of the time after an attack we find out the perps were "on the radar". When they first get on the radar is when we should forget about offending them. That's when they need extreme interrogation and if there is any question they might try to blow us up, shoot us, or stab us, that's when they go to the military prison. I hear that Gitmo is still open. After all, they are the ones that declared war on us. And this is no ordinary war so the usual and ordinary rules of war should not apply.

Comey said in his own words that Trump was not under Investigation by the FBI over Russia collusion. Comey said there was no collusion between Russia and Trump or any members of the Trump Team.

Your Democratic lies have been squashed by Comey. Comey even confessed that he leaked information to the News Media and all those stories the News Media put out was "ALL" "LIES"!

If that ain't "FAKE NEWS" I don't know what it is!

Comey even refused to report Obama's AG Lynch for ordering him to call the Hillary investigation a "Matter" not an investigation. Looks Like Hillary may still get put where she belongs.

I stand corrected! I thought this congressional hearing would be boring and nothing revealed. Boy was I wrong. Comey should have taken the 5th like all the other Democrats did.

Comey Hung himself today, but I doubt anything will ever be done about it.

It's like I said in the beginning, if Russia got any information, he got it from Hillary's and the DNC emails.

End of story! Time for the democrats to leave Trump alone and complain about their own lives if they want to complain about something.

Trump has not done anything he shouldn't have with any "Criminal Intent". Case Closed.

  • I see it is Groundhog day all over again. BA is still raging about something I did not say, LBR is still ranting. And my buddy Fare still thinks the approach which is not working for Russia will, for some reason, work for us.

The only comment worth responding to is Fare calling for us to torture anyone who is "on the radar." This is probably something the intelligence community would be better off not saying, as it has given a wrong impression. They want us to know that these people have not reached the point of committing a terrorist act without being noticed at all. And, in retrospect, some of them should have moved past the "on the radar" level. Hindsight is always 20/20. But, "on the radar" is a very low threshold. Literally millions of people are "on the radar." So many, that subsequent suspicious activity can easily be missed. Too many people are "on the radar" to monitor every action by every one of them closely. All you have to do to get "on the radar" is speak to the wrong neighbor, post on newspaper blogs, visit the wrong website, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.... "On the radar" does not mean very much. I would be surprised if Fare himself is not "on the radar." Who knows, maybe me as well. Little purpose would be served by torturing everyone who is "on the radar."

How nice the muslim preachers can generate some street cred with the anti-terrorist crowd. Bet they were still able to find some to get the dirtbags properly buried. Extreme interrogation does not necessarily equate to torture. That would be up to the interrogatee. The only real way to win the war on terror is the country as a whole needs to undergo a mindset change. We have to get back to a WW2 mentality. Until we decide to do "whatever it takes", we are just wasting time.

Back to J Edgar Comey. Anyone see him admit to being a leaker? Notice that he lied about it? Claimed he leaked in response to a Trump tweet. Only problem is the tweet came out the day after the leak was in the paper. Then he admitted to doing it to force appointment of the special council, even tho he knew there was no evidence against Trump. He should have to pay the cost of the whole witch hunt. Seems like the only bit of info the FBI didn't leak about the whole Russia, Russia, Russia investigation was the fact that Trump was NOT under investigation. Kinda fun after months of being lied to by the LSM to see someone with the stature of Chris "Tingle Up My Leg" Matthews admit there is no "there" there. Believe it or not, sometimes I watch BSNBC a little just for the sh**z and giggles. I wonder if the disgruntled ex-employee has a good criminal defense attorney. I also wonder if the destroy-Trump-(and America)-at-any-cost crowd is going to come up with a new bandwagon to jump on or if they will keep beating this old dead horse. Probably both.

  • Trump just said he would testify under oath, hell will freeze over first. How can he feel vindicated by Comey testimony if he thinks he was lying, makes no sense. Why does he believe only what he thinks helps him. If he has tapes they will solve all this.

His comment on Comey leaking will not wash.It is not illegal to make your personal notes public. You are only guilty if you leak classified info. This is witness intimidation.

Now he is taking credit for blockaide of Qatar and Pence and Sec of State is asking for it to end.I don't think he even knew we have military bases there.

Actually the notes were made on company time about company business. They do not belong to J Edgar, they belong to the government. He had no right to leak them and did break the law. He also lied under oath to the Senate. He was asked if shillary won did he think he would be fired and claimed to not know. Everyone that has paid attention for more than one minute knows that is the first thing she would have done. Probably before the first party. Makes me SMH when I see the dems all riled up about Trump doing it. If they had their way last year they would have fired Gomey before the election.

Laz and lbur, depends on what you mean by leak. If you mean the actual memo from Gomey to his friend who read it to the reporter, then maybe that didn't get out til later. But maybe not. If you want that to be the case then I would assume you (at least Laz) would need to concede the article the day before the tweet was based on leaks from the other hi ups at the FBI with whom Gomey shared (leaked) water cooler gossip. Either way, the whole deep state was able to leak everything about the investigation. Well, everything except for the fact that Trump was not under investigation. Had Goober said that publicly when Trump asked, or even had one of his gofers leak it, I'd bet he would still have his job. Thank goodness he didn't.

If the left is so hell bent on letting in terrorists, maybe Trump can figure out a way to only let in ones that will just go after the loons on the left. I'll bet their first target of opportunity would be the protesters against the anti-sharia rally. Karma works in mysterious ways. But not as mysterious as a group of people claiming to be pro-women, pro-gay, pro-religious freedom, pro-abortion out there supporting a way of life and law that is 100% (that is 180 degrees for the math-impaired) opposed to what they claim to believe. I've got a good imagination, but even I couldn't make up something like that. Wonder if that is some sort of omen about the end of time? Anyone hear if they happened to put Gabby's bullet in her ship?

First, those like lbur and her cohorts that don't believe in the constitution can go elsewhere and live under sharia with their muslim friends. Second, tho I'm not usually in favor of the government spending more money, they need to immediately pass a bill giving police protection to all reps and senators that are republicans. The alt left isn't after the dems and besides, this is the result of the whacko destroy-Trump-at-any-cost crowd which is primarily the dems and the MSM. What do they expect when they are constantly on TV knowingly lying to the public?

"But you know what they say about payback Fair." Lbur

Remember that lbur if and when someone (not me) on the right gets triggered by this and seeks payback for the political terrorism perpetrated by burney's campaign helper. Burney's speech denouncing his helper's actions would have been nice if it was sincere. But we all know burney is a socialist and anyone with a minimal knowledge of history knows socialism and violence go together like salt and pepper; mac and cheese; Sonny and Cher. Ok, maybe not Sonny and Cher. At least we should be thankful the perp was an Occupy Wall Street alum and not a member of the clinton clean-up crew. Side stepped a real massacre with that. Any of us that are still alive should get on our knees tonight and thank God. I didn't realize til today how dangerous a country we live in. According to the goofy governor of Virginia 93 million Americans are killed by gun violence every day. Best case scenario we only have 3-4 days left. Enjoy them. Responsibly.

I take it that means you don't know if they used it or not. To clarify, I think she was christening the boat, but honestly I had some trouble understanding what she was saying. Trump hasn't encouraged a new era of hate. The left has. Hate and violence. Just because they can't get over the fact that they lost. If you people hate the country that profoundly, why don't you just leave. I'm sure you could find happiness in Cuba or North Korea or Russia. There are still enough Americans left that you won't be turning this country into your socialist/communist utopia anytime soon.

What with the wall to wall coverage of the recent political terrorism perpetrated by the left, a big story from London hasn't received much coverage. Thoughts and prayers for the victims and families of the tragic fire. Not sure if this is true or not but in this day and age of outlets like the New York Slime, Washington Compost, BSNBC, and the Commie News Network reporting flat out lies as if they were the God's honest truth, I see no reason not to pass along a rumor I heard. Seems as tho the London FD may not have had enough water to properly fight the fire. And an anonymous source claims that may have been due to the mayor holding some in reserve in case it might be needed to emergently extinguish any korans that were set on fire. Don't know if it is true or not.

Ok, lbur, let's assume for the sake of argument that you are right. Otherwise there would be no argument because you are wrong. If he really thought it was all about his wants, then that would make him a masochist, not the sadist the progressives make him out to be. Why else would he spend his last years putting up with all the BS the left is constantly slinging at him? He could spend the rest of his life doing anything he wanted for fun. He doesn't need this hassle. Instead, he spends his life putting up with your drivel because he wants and is trying to make life better for average Americans. Including you. Instead of fighting him tooth and nail every step of the way, doncha think it would be nobler to get out of the way and let him get on with the business of making America great again? Ahhh, who am I trying to kid? I know you will say no. After all, you are a rock solid member of the party of no. Guess it doesn't really matter. Trump will get the job done or go down trying. Just keep history in mind. The last time you guys tried to tear this country apart with armed conflict it didn't end well for you. Don't expect a better result this time if your friends keep trying to gun down the right.

-- Posted by fair share on Sat, Jun 17, 2017, at 10:49 PM
  • Interesting post, Fare. It does not seem to me that it is all about liberals and conservatives, or Republicans and Democrats. We have some basic perceptions of reality that do not mesh, regardless of political philosophy.

    1) You believe that Trump is out to make life better for average Americans and "make America great again." But, all I see is a two bit hustler born with money. I see the same guy that is selling counterfeit Rolex watches on Times Square, or rolling back odometers on used cars. It is just the wealthy version. And there is nothing in his history, or his actions, that leads me to believe he has any greater interest than to increase his own celebrity and line his own pockets.

    2) You seem truly concerned that his failure to deliver has been brought about by the blog posts of Les B Reel, the media in general, liberals, and Democrats. Truth is, he has not delivered because of his own inadequacies. Les B Reel, other liberals, and the media have no votes in congress. They are not charged with drawing up bills or coming up with plans. And the Democrats have no political power. They do not control a single branch of government. Trump cannot get anything passed, because he is not even capable of leading his own party.

-- Posted by lazarus on Sun, Jun 18, 2017, at 5:30 PM
  • Isn't it a shame and hopefully a wake up call that the Demicrats and Republicans created such a disconnect that allowed Trump to step into the void.

-- Posted by stevemills on Sun, Jun 18, 2017, at 6:27 PM
  • And its the right in the pockets of the NRA that keep making it legal to posess these type of guns.

We have 7 american soldiers killed and Trump goes on a self congratulatory rant on twitter about his d*** fake poll numbers. He never mention them or their families, this is inappropriate for a president.Like I said he only cares about himself. This is a man who went golfing on Mothers day instead of spending it with his family.

"The last time you guys tried to tear this country apart with armed conflict it didn't end well for you"

It went well for the right people, the slaves they thought it turned out well.Fair are you wanting a civil war? There are nuts in both parties.

It went well for the right people, not so much for the democrats. And no, I don't want a civil war. But the more uncivil, violent, and mainstream the far left get, the more likely it seems. And true, the lack of agenda-passing isn't wholly the fault of the dems/media. The left wing and anti-Trump portions of the Republican party are also at fault. But I lump them in with the libs and sometimes call them rinos. At least the dems have taught those that don't want a democrat for president how to act if and when they elect another one. Since everyone but hillary was responsible for her loss, maybe she will run again. I'll bet burney is looking for a rematch.

-- Posted by fair share on Sun, Jun 18, 2017, at 8:11 PM
  • The KKK was founded by the conservative party which back then was the democrats. What was a democrat back during civil war is now a conservative republican. So when you say fair the last time we tried to tear this country apart with arms you are talking about the conservative party.

When the president of a country was heard and seen telling americans to punch people in the face, offer to pay for their legal fee and let the 2nd admendment take care of his opponent what do you expect will happen.Standards in the white house now have been lowered to include lying, bullying, degrading women and getting richer off America. Now the president can cash in on foreign leaders staying in his hotels in return for favors when making policies. His staff states now it is impossible to keep up with how much he receives in hotel fees from foreigners. We will never know if he is donating his salary without seeing his taxes.Everyone is not willing to accept his lying word.

Lbur, I mean the democrat party that tried to elect hillary last year. The same party that elected Kennedy, FDR, Wilson, and Andy Jackson. They tried to elect Stephen Douglas just before the War of Northern Aggression, not Abe. The two parties never got together one day and said "hey, let's switch names". But I can see why you have to believe what the party tells you instead of learning history for yourself. Otherwise you might figure out the party is still using it's centuries old M O of making people dependant on them, just changing the way they do it occasionally. Kinda funny that you imply the Republican party is the conservative party. I'd be more likely to believe less liberal. I see no problem with a candidate letting their supporters know they can defend themselves when there are protesters around being violent towards them. I'll bet if 2nd amendment lovers didn't come to the polls as much as they did, we would have a different prez right now. So the 2nd amendment did take care of her without firing a shot. Speaking of hillary, anyone know how many millions her and slick willy made off their pay-for-play foundation? But keep using the old democrat tactic of accusing your opponent of what you're guilty of.

  • Steve, Fare, what do you think? I believe that LB Reel has come up with something we can all agree with. I don't know that it is realistic to think the nation could afford for everyone to have the health plan congress typically rewards itself, but it would go a long way towards me buying in if congress put itself on the same plan they are creating for us.

Not realistic for everyone to be on the plan congress has because despite what some people think, you still have to do the math, which just doesn't work. But it sure would be nice if we all lived under the same laws. As far as her real point goes I think 13 white guy republicans can come up with a better healthcare plan behind closed doors than 1 black guy democrat intent on imploding the whole system in order to institute single payer (total government takeover).

  • I was thinking about the "closed room" complaints coming from the other aisle and even from the same aisle just this morning. I see it as a new "taking care of business" approach that I would see in a large corporation.

Limit the number of participants so that it does not take FOREVER to come up with options. It will still come out for evaluation, but too many voices make for confusion and distraction.

I don't think healthcare is a race topic for this challenge, but for those who see race in everything, it is what it is.

In my business we see inaction because of too many voices in the decision making process so much that we have a term for it. "Death by committee"

It is prevalent in companies that are struggling and often fail. No decision is made except to not make a decision.

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Jun 21, 2017, at 12:13 PM
  • *

You are right about death by committee Steve. Seems like nowadays it is all about going along to get along, not making waves, not rocking the boat. And not getting anything done. But when you want to get something done, you gotta actually do something. You know, possibly the best era of music was 1970s classic/mellow rock. Not only was it just plain good music, but a lot of life can be understood thru song. While the Eagles were great with many good songs, too many people use one of them as their theme song for life. Of course, I'm referring to "Take It Easy". Another good band from then was Bachman-Turner Overdrive. They have a much better theme song for life but far too few people seem to use it. You've probably already guessed I'm talking about "Taking Care of Business". Fortunately Trump is a TCB kind of guy and he is starting to rub off a little on the swamp. I don't know if Trump ever gets tired, but if he does, I'll bet you one of his mottos is "Don't quit when you're tired; quit when you're finished".

-- Posted by fair share on Wed, Jun 21, 2017, at 7:37 PM
  • You are absolutely right, Steve. This legislation would have never gotten done in open meetings. Truth is, little of consequence is ever done by the government in open meetings. Regardless of open meeting laws, most of the business of any consequence is done outside, and what occurs in public meetings is merely a performance.

Of course, this particular legislation presents a real problem for the Republicans. No matter what form it takes, more people will be unhappy with it, than happy. Quite possibly it will not satisfy anyone. Democrats will be unhappy, because it is a Republican program, and they are required to be dissatisfied, just the same as Republicans were required to be unhappy about a Democrat program. No matter what form it takes, it is going to insure fewer people. Don't expect anyone losing insurance to be happy. Some people's insurance may go down (although I would not count on that), But the insurance on others will go up (you can count on that). No one whose insurance increases is going to be happy. A good portion of the Republican "base" will be unhappy that the government is involved at all, and in particular incensed that the government is helping undeserving people ("undeserving" being anyone who cannot afford insurance... they call that catch-22). Anyone sincere about fiscal responsibility will be displeased that the revenues to pay for government involvement are being removed. Primarily, supporters of either party are only concerned about fiscal responsibility by the other party. The Republicans have been wishing for it, and now they have it. I imagine they knew all along that this was the worst thing that could happen to them. Complaining is so easy. Coming up with solutions is hard.

Of course, the whole thing could have been avoided, if only "next week" would ever come. Trump had a perfect plan before the election even happened. It would insure everyone, and cost less. Like so many things, he was going to reveal the details "next week." The problem is, "next week" will always be a week away. Just like tomorrow never comes. Because it will always be "today" and "this week."

NOTHING. He will not even admit that it happened and praises Putin.

Now he admits there were no tapes that he knew of insinuating that Obama might have put a surveillance device there. He also admits that he said that to influence Comeys testimony, which is called witness tampering. If it is bugged it is probably the Russians that frequent his office.

Since he can not fire Mueller he thinks that trashing him will will help this go away. Following Trump's money trail will be interesting.

So, lbur, what did b o do about Russian interference before the election????? Nothing. Cause even he believed the lame stream media lies that hillary would win (or did he?). Is it beyond your imagination that b o may have set up surveillance? Apparently you missed it when the news was reporting b o's administration had been illegally spying on thousands of Americans (maybe even you) for years. Probably wasting your time watching bsnbc instead of watching the news. How in the world was Trump witness tampering? By making him think he might be proven wrong if he lied? Lordy, Lordy, how dare he encourage leaking J Edgar Comey to tell the truth! You know, I'm kinda glad you people kept pushing your Russia, Russia, Russia agenda despite lack of any proof of Trump involvement. Looks like now you've pushed it all the way to o'bummer. • In civics class they teach about the three branches of government. Not that we apparently do a great job of learning about our government in civics class. The responsibilities and purview of the various branches of government are poorly understood. And the same can be said of the federal, state and local governments. For all our strongly held opinions, most of us have little idea who actually does what.

But, there is an even more significant breakdown of our government structure. There are three types of government employees: elected officials, patronage, and professional. We all know about the elected officials. Those are the ones we select. Of the three classes of government employees, they are the least effective. For all the importance we place on selecting them, they cannot do much. There are no qualifications, and we cast our votes (those of us who vote) based mostly on frivolous whims and uninformed biases. While the elected officials ostensibly make all the "decisions," they are incapable of implementing any of those decisions. Only the professional employees can actual implement legislation. Unfortunately, it seems to be preordained that elected officials are hamstrung in making their decisions by the prime directive of getting re-elected. Even those who are competent (and you would be shocked at just how incompetent many of them are) cannot make their decisions based on knowledge, but instead try to choose the path that will insure their re-election. Below the elected officials are the patronage employees. These employees are not elected, but are appointed by elected officials. Much like the elected officials, they are hamstrung by the impermanence of their positions, and must be driven by the prime directive. Every action must enhance the potential for the re-election of their patron elected official.

The people who actually make the government work are the professional employees. They are there through the various administrations, doing the nuts and bolts of making the government actually function. Often their job is greatly complicated by having to work under the direction of elected or patronage officials who are idiots. It can be quite a balancing act to keep the machine working, while maintaining the perception of the top two classes that they are actually making decisions, when directly following every order would cause a catastrophic failure of the entire system.

Each class of employee must have a different loyalty. Elected officials must at least convince their constituency that they are loyal to the people who voted for them. Patronage officials must be loyal to the elected official who put them in their position.... But, the professional employees' loyalty is the the people who they serve. Party affiliation, status, or other considerations are not important. Regardless of the turmoil or turnover that occurs in the ranks of elected and patronage officials, the professional employees must keep things running.

Think about it. It does not matter if you are liberal, conservative or independent, you have to realize that, if we replaced every single government employee every time there was an election, the government would cease to function. For the professional employees, skill and competency are more important than political persuasion.

Take the military, for example. They have to serve Democratic presidents and Republicans with the same resolve. Because their real loyalty is to the country. Look at the state department. Ambassadors are patronage employees. They can change with every administration. But, continuity is crucial in their offices. The backbone of the state department is the professional employees. That is why you see ambassadorships passed around as political plums. Those people are unimportant, unless by some happy chance they are not only well connected, but are actually competent as well. The real work of making our embassies function is done by the professional employees, who care little if they are under a Democrat or Republican administration. They work for the good of the country.

When a new administration comes in, their overall performance is not going to be determined by whether they are Republican or Democrat, but rather by how they structure their administration. The more purely political appointments they make, the worse job their administration will do. Those who put their cronies and supporters into important roles that should be filled by talented professionals reap an incompetent administration. Those who put skill and knowledge ahead of personal loyalty will produce a competent administration.

Intelligence officials have long been held above the political fray. Not many people are arrogantly stupid enough to make high intelligence positions political patronage jobs. (actually, i do not recall another president being that stupid.) Demanding personal loyalty from the intelligence services demonstrates an appalling lack of understanding about our government. Because not only do you have these functional imperatives, our government has been structured by people who understand the importance of segregating military (which includes intelligence) from the civilian controlled administration. We have been insulated from these concerns for a couple of centuries, but there are very real dangers to having a military with personal loyalty to an individual, rather than to the country.

I gotta hand it to you, Laz, you make a lot of sense about the professional layer of the executive branch. It's a shame you didn't follow that line of thought thru to completion. In this day and age things have changed dramatically from the time we were kids and before. You say that the professional class has loyalty to country, not party or elected official. That used to be a whole lot more true than it is today. Now a large majority (95%, 98%, 99.99%?) are firmly in the progressive left. Right now they are not at all loyal to the country. Not even necessarily to party. But first and foremost to the anti-Trump movement. Perhaps you have heard of the Deep State? That is the big swamp. The career politicians are the smaller swamp. Both need drained. And I still don't think you would keep on an employee who was trying to take you and your business down. Even if they had been there long before you took over the business.

  • Americans might get to finally see those death panels repubs have been talking about for years. It will be a tax cut for the rich disguised as healthcare.Looks like the repubs still might not pass this while controlling the house and senate but wants to blame the dems. When Trump gets through threatening them they will cave in.What kind of country refuses to insure their disable, elderly, veterans and children.Every other country insures its people why can't America? It is better to wait in line for non-emergency test than not get it ever with no insurance.

Trump is blaming everybody but himself, even Obama for his failures.Obama remains silent with class while Trump is making a fool of himself by bashing him.

This is the first administration to refuse to face the people they work for and tell them what is going on,what are they hiding by refusing cameras. This is the new norm.

  • I forgot, Fare. It always comes down to some dark and mysterious conspiracy. The simple answer cannot possibly be the right one.... The "Deep State"... it is hard to even type that with a straight face. The janitors and file clerks are all secretly out to get Trump.

Things have proceeded smoothly for generations, through numerous transitions of power from one party to the other. The only thing different today is that we have someone unfit to be in charge. It does not require management skills to be born wealthy, or to be a celebrity, or (unfortunately) to be elected to political office. Especially if the voting tallies get a little nudge from some friendly hackers. Donald Trump is simply a terrible manager. As I pointed out before, he cannot even lead his own party. Or are the Republican Senators and House members also secret Democrats?

  • lazarus,

You much like anyone else are entitled to an opinion.

Just as myself and many others who feel Trump is quite fit and capable of leading.

He does however have quite a job at hand trying to reverse our country's downward spiral.

Give him time. We all patiently gave the Baboon 8 years to prove his ignorance.

Yeah, but it didn't take nearly that long for him to prove it to a lot of us.

The janitors and file clerks aren't the problem. Their career bosses that create mounds of unlegislated law are.

"Especially if the voting tallies get a little nudge from some friendly hackers." Really? Not at all surprising if it came from someone like lbur. A little surprising coming from lazarus. This Russia horse is not only dead; it is decaying. You anti-Trumpers need to find something else to beat. Of course Russia was trying to interfere with the election. Like they always do. Did they alter any votes? No. Did they collude? Not with Trump, possibly with o'bummer. I'll bet this is like the left getting a song stuck in their head. And it's going to take the next 7 1/2 years for them to get rid of it. Probably be replaced by something about Pence or Ivanka.

  • Seems the fake news police officer has got fake Time Magazine covers on the walls of his golf clubs. What a hypocrite. To Trump anyone that exposes his lies is fake or out to get him.

Is there anyone in the white house with ties to the U.S? How many more in this administration will have to register as foreign agents and lied about taking millions from foreign countries to sway policies in the U.S?

BA calling Obama a baboon tells me what kind of person you are, racist remark. The only one taking us into a downward spiral is Trump. Now 39 countries have less trust in America since he took office and some are our closest allies.

  • John F Kennedy on the media"It is never pleasant to be reading things frequently that is not agreeable news, but I would say it is an invaluable arm of the presidency as a check really on what is going on in the administration"Even though they may write things we don't like ,even though we may disapprove there is no doubt that we can not do the job at all in a free society with out a very, very active press".

Trump shows no understanding of the role of a free press. He is blocking cameras to prevent the people who employ him from knowing what is going on in the people's house. They can not face the american people.

  • LBR I can only guess that his response to press might be an overreaction to the frustration many of us feel about the heavy bias we see/experience from the news media in general.

Hopefully he will settle in and accept more but that is not his past mode of operation. His past mode did not need to include finesse, unless he saw a benefit. Seeing a benefit is what will mellow him.

That brashness and non-political correctness is something that attracted many of us. NOT his vulgarity and rudeness, but regrettably they come with the man.

If we had been able to find someone strong enough to stand up to the "bull" in a more civilized fashion, I know I personally would have supported them with stronger conviction than Mr. Trump but.....

  • While Trump was and still is campaigning he used the media for his advantage. He can't have it both ways and condemn them when he doesn't like being called out on his lies. It's a sad day when a president resorts to bullying and petty personal attacks with tweets like he did today when he should be running the country. How can he be upset with Morning Joe when he stated he doesn't watch it anymore. After all the name calling about Obama and his family,he never said a word. That is what a real adult would do and not have tantrums like a 2 year old when someone takes their candy.

-- Posted by lets be real on Thu, Jun 29, 2017, at 10:23 AM
  • I don't know who or what "cup of Joe" is but I noticed on the morning news (CBS) they interviewed a high profile Chinese dissident who said he was impressed that the US President is sharing what is on his mind through twitter. Two different opinions 😺

  • "Dead" issue, Fare? Everything points to collusion, starting with Trump's own obsession with a "rigged" election. Who really thinks everyone cheats more than someone who cheats himself?

The investigation is only in the beginning stages. So far there have been only more questions raised, nothing has come out that would seem to indicate it is without a basis. And the math works out with the electoral college where it would not require anything more than a nudge. Just a few added votes in the right places. And the Russian hackers were in those places. But, the thing that most convinces me there is something to it is the administration's efforts to obstruct the investigation. With complete co-operation, this could have been concluded long ago. I don't see anything left or right about asking the question; "If there is nothing to hide, why are they so anxious to hide it?"

  • While he continues to degrade another woman about her looks and her sanity, has he looked in the mirror. He is caught lying in his own tweet about Mika at Mar-a-largo on New Years eve with a bleeding face from face lift when photos prove him wrong. When he lies the white house states he was either joking or did not mean it.He can't help it he has no control over anything including his diet, keeping his hands to himself or his mouth what is their excuse for backing up his lies.

And decaying Laz. Don't forget the decaying. But I guess we just can't keep from beating it. I would agree there may be something to the collusion part but not what the left keeps claiming. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they saved my money and gave o'bummer a free pass. I do wonder exactly how many votes the ruskies changd from R to D or how many D votes they stole so they couldn't be counted. For you people that honestly think Russia changed the outcome of the election, please ask o'bummer why he didn't do anything to stop it. I wonder if, in his old age, he is secretly trying to rehabilitate his legacy.?

-- Posted by fair share on Thu, Jun 29, 2017, at 2:23 PM
  • And I wonder why Trump is trying to erase Obama's legacy instead of building his own by doing what is best for the country. He has already made history with the lowest approval ratings of any president in history.

If Obama had made an issue to America it would have been called political.Just like Old Mitch who fought him and who said he thought it was questionable and the rest of repubs. What is trump doing about it now.We have yet heard him even say Russia did it and we will make sure it doesn't happen again.Instead he praises Putin and wants sanctions removed. The answer to collusion is in his taxes that is why he absolutely refuses to release them.Thats okay there are other ways of finding out.

You know it is bad when his lawyer hires a lawyer. Why do they need lawyers over "fake news".

This really isn't hard to understand for most people. I can't figure out lbur if you are really that slow or if you are just afflicted with leftardism. Either way, I will try to explain this so you can understand. Keep in mind I am typing as slowly as I can. Trump IS o'bummer's legacy. If o'bummer were only half the p!ss-poor president that he was, there is no way Trump would be president now. I guess in retrospect, we probably should thank b o for giving us Trump. I'll even go ahead and do it publicly here and now. Thank you, b o, for giving us Trump! Your legacy is now safe and secure. Just not the one you were wanting.

Trump said there was going to be a surprise on healthcare this week, the surprise was the senate gave up and went home. They do not want to face their constituents back home if they voted for this bill.

GOP operative sought Clinton emails from hackers after being asked by Flynn.Trump even asked the Russians on live TV to find the Clinton emails. The pieces to the puzzle are falling into place.

  • To be fair, Fare (smiley face), upgrading Obama's image has not been Trump's only impact. Ours is not the only election that Russia has been working on, They have been playing that game across the western world. And they had been having some success. Looks like Trump might be their high water mark. Of course, they have been pretty clumsy and transparent about it, using the identical tactics... fake stories about the opposing candidate's health, hacking e-mails and releasing a combination of real and fake material immediately before the election, etc. I imagine they tried to find their way into the voting software as well.

Forewarned is forearmed. It is not that Europeans are smarter than us. They had the advantage of seeing what happened here. And the consequences. France's Trump (Marine Le Pen) got thumped. She was supposed to ride the Trump wave into office. Maybe she got part of it right. She was just charged with fraud and misuse of funds. The Brexit folks thought the time was right to force another election in hopes of solidifying their control over the government of Britain. They lost their majority. So Trump has had an impact all over the world.

  • Glad to see bipartisan governors standing up an saying NO to Trumps Voter Commissioner request for personal data on voters birth date,SS numbers, party and voting history. It has been proven time and again there is no wide spread voter fraud. So why do they need this other than to harass and intimidate voters.

Seems Trumps nasty tweets are backfiring on him.He sets the tone everyday with his tweets and brings this all on himself. Now we can add blackmail to the list and Morning Joe has phone records and texts to prove it.

If Putin compliments Trump enough next week he could that idiot to tell him what ever he wants.

To be real fare about it, Laz, I believe I explained the Russian interference in a previous post a few months ago. (But doesn't this one seem to have gone on 2-3 months?) They have been doing this to us and others for many years. I would have thought their preference might be hillary since they had such an easy time with her as Secretary of State and she gave them so much uranium. Side note--that angle of collusion with Russia could stand some investigation. And I'll bet since they saw what happened to Syria WHILE Trump was having his 2 scoops with the leader of China they now wish they had helped her. But they don't really care who the President is. They were transparent because they wanted us to know they were sticking their fingers where they didn't belong. They knew that whichever won, some people would be having a cow about them interfering. And lucky for the Ruskies, you and lbur and some of your friends (but not all😁) have played right into their hands. They care more about sewing discord amongst the citizens so the citizens will disrupt the presidency than they care about picking the President. To be real fare about it again, had the election gone the other way, I'm sure we would still be having this discussion.

-- Posted by fair share on Fri, Jun 30, 2017, at 11:38 PM
  • Ah yes. The devastating attack on Syria. That little piece of maskirova is classic Russian....

Have you seen the pictures of the airfield we "attacked"? It consists of nothing except a couple of runways and a handful of outbuildings out in the middle of the desert. Now, I was like everyone else, and initially thought we had acted decisively...until I heard one of our administration spokesmen explaining that we had not "cratered the runways because they are so easy to repair." That got me to wondering what it was we did destroy. After all, with 24 hours notice to Syria's Russian allies, there was no way there was a single flying asset still on site. You can google up the pictures yourself. We shot off 60 cruise missiles to destroy a few outbuildings. Syria was using the airstrips again the next day. I have to admit, it was a beautiful act of deception. Certainly it was a political victory for Trump (and there have been precious few of those.) Unfortunately it is unlikely that it was our idea. Russia is the acknowledged master of maskirova (which is why it has a Russian name.) We shot off a lot of missiles, but for the purpose of, quite literally, pounding sand. That was when it became obvious to me that our administration really is in collusion with Russia.

  • Thanks, Fare. My bad.

You had another good point. We need Steve to open us up a new discussion, so we don't have to scroll down so far. (smiley face). I have been surprised that he has not addressed the hottest "debate" going on right now, health care. It seems to me that, despite the volumes of talk, the real question has been almost ignored. The House and Senate Republicans have presented themselves with an impossible task. Our medical care in the US is so expensive for one reason above all others; insurance companies. Like you always say, do the math. Add the cost of providing excessive profits for insurance companies to all the other excessive profits built into the system and you have only one possible outcome; ridiculously costly medical care. Adding another layer for government *management* of the whole thing can only send the costs one way. UP! So, the only way the Republicans can lower the costs is to provide less medical care. They cannot come to a consensus, because there is not a single philosophy. You have some who believe that they truly can defy the laws of mathematics and come up with a plan that covers everything for everyone, and it will cost less. There are others who simply believe that the government should stand by and watch what happens without interfering in any way. I actually think there is a workable solution, that would reduce the cost of medical care and increase the availability. I think the answer is right there, and they are all (Democrats and Republicans of every stripe) ignoring it because it has a political cost. We could cross this hurdle, if we had a strong leader. Unfortunately we have a TV reality show celebrity who is preoccupied with tweeting insults at TV news celebrities.

There are a few other things adding to the nonsustainable rising costs. 1) The ever more fancy advancements in diagnosis and treatment. 2) Everyone demanding "the best" as opposed to settling for the "Good enough". 3) Way more lawyers than we need. Heaven forbid you get your LIFE saved from breast cancer but end up with permanent hair loss. The more I think about it, the more I think every state should be required carry and lawyers should always be in season. 4) People's expectations for healthcare, like so much of life, is too much microwave and not enough crockpot. 5) Way too many people that don't take responsibility for themselves and their decisions. I don't see any reason to have government add another layer of money skimming. But a true free market would help a lot. And I think people should be allowed to choose for themselves. And if you want to stiff the taxpayer for some very minimal amount of coverage for those that won't do better for themselves, I wouldn't complain too much about that. After all, we've been doing more than this most of my life anyway. BUT, if a person chooses to go bare, they should deal with the consequences, not you or me, just as it should be in other aspects of life. You just can't give everything to everyone. That math doesn't add up.

Come on lbur! Me and Lazarus were having an adult conversation and here you come interrupting. Tho I agree it would be nice to have healthcare reform, tax reform, and infrastructure legislation done soon, do you people really want it? Heck no. If only 25 of the dums will vote for Kate's law, how many will vote for the rest? I'll bet a dollar or thousand it will be less than 25. Only 25 of your dum/dem reps care enough about the American people to try and keep them safe? Well, just remember the guy in movie that was saying "Thank you, thank you very much" but was really saying something a little bit different. If your people gave even half of a d@mn about the American people, they would be working with him to get this sh/stuff done. But, alas, all they know how to do is stonewall and be the party of "no". They would probably even vote down a proposal to make shillary Queen if it was proposed by Trump. SMH.
