It was brought to my attention by our own blog respondent Lazarus that the imams in Great Britain have stepped up to the plate. "At least 500 imams and religious leaders have now refused to perform funeral prayers for the London Bridge attackers in condemnation of the “vile murderers”"
THIS is where they finally call out the extremists and take a stance. The imams are taking a brave stance since they will more than likely be targeted and condemned by the extremists but probably the bravest of all is the spokesperson because he has become a focal point for the statement and the opposition's hate.
"the group aimed to broadcast the message that violent extremism was “forbidden” by Islam. “If you follow this path you are stepping away from Islam to a dark and godless place,” he added. " This can bring tears to the eyes of many who have fought this faction for so many years.
"“We want to make very clear, as Islamic scholars and leaders, that they are wrong,” he added. “The violent and hate-filled views they hold are not Islamic.”" I hope it is universal, but hallelujah!
I noticed the banners all had "World Suni Movement". Since Sunis are the predominant sect, I hope that bodes well.
