Feline hide and seek? No a trapped cat.

Yesterday we kept hearing a little one meowing. Thinking we would eventually learn the reason, we went about our normal day until Deb noticed several cats looking intensely at our fireplace. Upon closer examination she saw that one of the youngest kittens had climbed into a convective air duct built into the rock fireplace.
We had blocked the intake holes on the floor long ago when one of our other kittens had done the same thing, but I apparently (always my fault) moved the bricks during cleaning one day and the kitten found her way in. This usually isn't too much of a deal since placing food at the outside of the opening usually entices them to come back out but this time Mandy jumped up to the exit vents and was afraid to come back down.
After a day and a night in there I decided it was time to take a more proactive approach and chipped concrete away from the vents so I could remove stone to widen the vent area. After removing stones from both vents, I backed up so Mandy could see I was sufficiently away from the opening and out she came with any panic or fuss.
