  • Steve,

I am surprised to see no responses yet.

Most of all no response from the great legal scholar Sui Sui.

You know, when I was a kid, I was taught "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". Guess they don't teach that any more. But in adulthood, if people want to badmouth others to the point of ruining their work or personal life, they better be sure they have truth on their side. Or at least, the better lawyer.

  • It is maddening enough that politicians can twist and fabricate under a seemingly accepted license to lie during campaigns, but Social sites have run rampant with it.

I am not a big one for new laws but I think our current laws can be tweaked to cover the internet, if that is the problem. News outlets usually wiggle and play with the words to avoid direct defamation suits using words like accused, suspected, alleged. I believe if a reporter saw the crime take place, and saw the perpetrator captured in front of their eyes immediately, they would still use the words.

But on the internet social sites, which in a way ARE published, they can say anything and seem untouchable??????
