Response by John Carney, Editor, Shelbyville Times-Gazette:
When I use Walmart Pay, at the store, instead of getting a physical receipt, I can access the receipt through the Walmart app on my phone. Walmart could add a feature to their app that would give you this sort of category breakdown, not only for one individual shopping trip, but over time, for all the purchases made through the app. Kroger now has a payment feature in their app as well, but using theirs, you still get the old-fashioned paper receipt. You can see a purchase history in the app, though, so Kroger could theoretically add that same kind of feature as well.

My wife always did the shopping at Walmart and she would go down every isle hunting for the cheapest brand to buy. I would be left sitting in the hot car for an hour every time she went into a store, no matter which store.

Now my wife is in a rehab home so I have to do all the shopping, but I don't eat much so it's pretty simple. What I can't find I just ask someone for, even another shopper.

My thought has always been why not buy groceries one time then use the receipt for a shopping list. Well, first you would have to buy everything according to isle to make it easy to find - however, Walmart takes pride in moving items around in their store so that wouldn't work long.

Or, I would have to buy everything in categories, but getting the cashier to ring them up in the same categories would be impossible, so what is a man to do?

One of my daughter-in-laws suggested that I go online and order, That way WalMart does all the shopping and brings it out to my car and even loads it in the car for me. Yeah right, but at what cost?

I tell her that won't work for two reasons, I don't exercise, so shopping in Walmart would give me the exercise I need PLUS if I didn't shop myself I would miss looking at all those crazies and their stuff they wear. Oops, I'm one of those crazies. because I go as I am. I don't clean up and shave just to go buy stuff at Walmart. I figure no one knows if I am working on my car, boat or at a factory and just coming in for a part or lunch.

I sure wouldn't want to miss all that! That is part of the fun of Walmarting!

Plus where can you go and find so many women who will smile back at you? I'll stick to shopping inside Walmart, if no one minds.

  • Interesting idea to use the receipt as a shopping list. If it was scan-able and gave a break down in each category, there's an app or at least a feature to add to the existing apps. Maybe it is already there?
