Not what you were expecting? Considering that I emptied my seed bin two years ago and last year donated just about everything to the seed bank at the Library, you would expect my order to be MUCH BIGGER than 5 Seed packs, right?
The catch is, I keep going to seed swaps and friends keep giving me seed as they scale back their own gardens. For a person who keeps saying I wanted to scale back as well, what gives?
I can’t suppress the excitement and optimism each growing season brings. Continuous ideas of improving the garden keep running through this old head and even now I anxiously await a new tool for starting my seeds. I currently have 47 seed packs.
I argued with myself about getting it ever since I went to a seed swap organized by the folks in the Middle TN Plant Swap on Facebook. The device, a mini-soil blocker.
I have a 4 block device but stopped because I was tying up too much potting soil and space when seeds did not germinate. The mini-blocker makes 3/4” blocks and allows me to start 20 seeds in almost the same space as the larger 4 block.
Once sprouted and showing viability I can either put them in a larger soil block, a pot or even in the garden. There are more benefits of a soil blocker that I may discuss in a comment here, but I am running short on time so..... bye.
