  • As an RN I'm considered an "essential employee" so therefore, for the most part, it's the same old routine for me.

I'm working like usual. But when I'm home spend the time isolating and social distancing. Watching more tv and maybe more time on the net.

Hope your computer didn't have a virus and infect the others.

  • SharonSue65 the “same old” but with a decided edge. Bless you and your family for being on the front line.

No virus fair share, the hard drive mechanically locked up. If I can, I will replace with a digital but have to buy an operating system. Would prefer getting 8.2 since my main software does not place nice with Windows10.

The next challenge is that I am not experienced in starting a blank hard drive and loading the operating system. I wonder if they sell new drives with Operating system already loaded?

I don't know much about computers other than turning them on. Maybe some WD40? 🤣

I bought two new computers Steve and they had windows 10. I bought them because I wanted to upload Windows Vista. Windows 10 is an Artificial Intelligence Machine. Delete your hard drive and windows 10 will get it out of the cloud and re install it. You can't change the operating system. I had my son-in-law remove the hard drive and install a new blank drive so he could install Windows Vista. Windows 10 was not having anything to do with it. It took over control of my computer and would not let him upload a different operating system.

So here is two thoughts I have.

Use that Extra PC USB operating system and see if you can access your data. If the hard drive is frooze up it can't read the data. Slap the side of your laptop and see if that breaks it loose.

The other thing is the cloud has all your data you had on your laptop. Take the hard drive out and put a new one in and the CLoud may down load everything you ever put on your computer. As far as to how you would download from the cloud I don't know. I just know that when I deleted my hard drive I went to bed with intentions of loading Windows Vista in the morning. When I got up and pulled my chair up to the computer with my new Windows Vista operating Disk, I looked and the computer put itself back the way it was before I deleted it. It even down loaded files I had deleted earlier.

This computer has made a Mad Man out of me. Everyday it is something else. Gotta go! want to send a pdf file to a printer in Calif before the internet goes silent tomorrow.

    Good luck Steve.

  • I’ve pulled the hard drive out and “Fonzied” it numerous times, reinstalled and repeated probably 5 times. Dead.

Don’t know if I can break it open to loosen the disk and try reading with a jumper cable bit will wait until I have the new computer up and going.

  • I loved fair share's answer lol lol! One thing I don't like is to be told to stay home (which I do) then see a giant sale add on flower's etc.. from Lowe's, especially when the sun is finally shining! I know the store needs to be open but that is holding a carrot in front of a horse and not giving it to them! Pray for my will power to be able to stay home. HP

  • I can understand your temptations. Some of those ads were bought, paid for, printed and plants planted before the lockdown.

Maybe they could put a hold on distribution for “freedom day” and honor them later but those same plants don’t wait. I don’t know the solution.

Or maybe they could offer home delivery. Some fast food places now will deliver at no charge.

  • That sounds feasible. Good idea. I would pay a small delivery charge to pay the mileage deduction allowed by IRS to cover costs. Their employee is an expense they would be paying anyway.

  • at least now we all understand why the dog gets so excited about going somewhere in the car.

    Steve, don't forget the tip!

Lazarus, I wish my cats had the same thoughts on car rides as dogs do.

  • You mean don’t forget to tip the driver? Absolutely. Having been in n food service for a number of years, tipping is ingrained.

  • Years ago I worked out of an office in Murfreesboro. A lost cat wandered into the office and for about two weeks while we looked for the owner the cat and I would commute each day. He got pretty good about it.

Finally he stayed home. When we got him neutered he twisted the vets finger in his collar so bad that both had a serious reminder of the event. The vet had a swollen, black and blue finger and KitKat passes out.

Maybe that is why we questioned him actually being neutered. Our feral colony were all shorthaired but suddenly there were long-haires, orange cats. Care to guess what KitKat was?

  • Thanks for all the great ideas about the plants! I forgot the plants have to grow before you can sell them, and the ads are made ahead of time. I am so into instant gratification--bad bad bad, I did manage to stay away, although as I drove by Lowe's I was sad. So much more going on to be really sad about than plants.
