The Times-Gazette will have a special 9/11 edition on Saturday in memory of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.
Also on Saturday, Veteran Tim Estes and the Defenders of Freedom & Liberty will have a special program at 10 a.m. in the Shelbyville Central High School Auditorium to commemorate the anniversary.
Guest speaker will be Jeffrey Johnson, a senior U.S. Marine instructor and retired Marine Corp colonel.
Johnson has over 24 years of experience as an officer in the Marine Corps with an occupational specialty as a combat engineer. He’s as well experienced in construction (horizontal and vertical), facilities management, power and water distribution, construction management, explosives, and equipment maintenance.
Johnson participated in disaster relief efforts to include: Sept. 11 “Fresh Kills Site” NYPD, Hurricane Mitch, Nicaragua, Hurricane Floyd and Dennis, and Humanitarian Civic Assistance Africa.
The event Saturday is free to the community.
