CHAPEL HILL — The District 11 golf tournament had a strong showing from Bedford County athletes, several of whom punched their tickets to the upcoming Region 6-A tournament.
Tuesday's tournament was highlighted by defending state champion, Evan Woosley-Reed, adding another title to the resume.
He bested second-place finisher Will Bales by 11 strokes to claim the medalist honors.
He shot a 34 on the front nine and finished strong with a 35 to claim the title.
He also led Cascade as a team to a third-place overall finish, good enough for a team qualification for the region tournament next week.
As a team, the Champions finished 12 strokes behind Hickman County and Eagleville, who both finished with a 356.
Garrett Rucker had a strong showing, finishing second for the Champions with a 91 overall score.
Hunter Williams finished four strokes back with a 95, while Landon Lane rounded out varsity scoring with a 113.
Community also had an individual golfer qualify for the region tournament.
While the Vikings were unable to advance as a team, Logan Miller continued his strong play and qualified for the region tournament with a 97.
He shot a 50 on his front nine, but improved with a 47 on the back nine to slip into the region field as an individual.
While the Champions had a strong showing in the boys competition, as a team, the Lady Champions perhaps stole the show and finished second overall to qualify for the region tournament as a team.
The dynamic duo of Chandler Noel and Kennedy Miller saw both Lady Champions finish with a final score of 96, which finished just five strokes behind district winning Hickman County.
Harper Shelton won the individual medalist honors in the girls' competition, narrowly besting both Lady Champions, who finished second and third.
With the district tournament complete, the teams will now focus on the upcoming Region 6-A tournament, which will be held on Tuesday at the Lawrence County Country Club, with a trip to the state tournament on the line.
