MURFREESBORO — The Cascade Lady Champions are trending the right way as the season inches towards the district tournament.
Cascade won its third-straight match, including its second-straight shutout victory, blanking MTCS 6-0 on Tuesday night.
“I am proud of the way our team played, from the top to the bottom of the lineup. We had a great showing, “Lady Champ coach Zack Spears said.
Cascade showcased its balance, scoring three goals in each half by five different Lady Champions.
Makenna Lamb put Cascade on the board off an assist by Caroline Stone in the fifth minute.
Lamb picked up an assist on Cascade's second goal, when she found Morgan Housch, who finished the possession with a shot to the back of the net.
Cascade continued to pepper shots on goal against the Lady Cougars, but just couldn't find the back of the net until Rachel Phillips fired a rebound shot in the 40th minute to give the Lady Champs a 3-0 lead at the half.
Like the first half, Cascade came out guns blazing early in the second half and Angelina Rodriguez fired off the fourth goal of the match in the 55th minute on a rebound from a Kylie Calvert free kick.
Cascade took advantage when Abby Harris was taken down and a penalty was assessed.
Phillips lined up the penalty kick following the foul and she found her second score of the night on the PK.
The final Lady Champion goal came off the toe of Calvert, who crushed a shot from 20 yards out on a free kick to the back of the net.
“Our defense held strong and Tori (Hull) played great making early decisions in goal and coming out and claiming balls to keep a clean sheet,” Spears said.
With Hull providing the brick wall in goal, MTCS never posed a true threat against a stout Lady Champion defense.
“We finally looked like we put together a complete game tonight,” Spears added.
