Champs' rally not enough at Forrest

CHAPEL HILL — A four-run rally late in the game during Wednesday’s make up game at Forrest wasn’t enough as the district-leading Rockets took down Cascade, 11-4.
Cascade threatened off the bat in the top of the first inning with a walk by Hunter Lemmons and a single by Conner Melson.
After advancing around the bags, Lemmons was tagged out at the plate and Cascade was unable to come through with a hit with a runner in scoring position.
Forrest seized the opportunity and plated five runs on six hits in the bottom of the inning.
The hosts tacked on three more in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.
Forrest played add on with two more in the fourth before Cascade worked some two-out magic in the top of the fifth.
Lemmons was hit by a pitch and was followed on base by Melson, who singled to center field.
Zach Crosslin then reached via error to load the bases. Cascade then scored three runs on three-straight walks.
The Champs got another run back in the top of the sixth as well.
Jake Bates drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a double by Lemmons.
The RBI double by Lemmons was as close as Cascade would get as Forrest plated another run in the bottom of the sixth, then nixed a Cascade threat in the top of the seventh.
Chance Brown singled to lead off the Cascade seventh and advanced to third on a two-out double by Noah McGeary.
But forrest came through and relief pitcher Preston Gentry recorded the final out via strikeout to end the Cascade threat.
Melson and McGeary went 2-for-3 to lead Cascade at the plate.
