LEWISBURG — Cascade fell behind early on Thursday night at Marshall County and was unable to overcome two five-run innings in an 11-7 non-district loss on Thursday night.
The Champs took the early lead and plated three in the top of the frame before starting pitcher Logan Green was tagged for five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Cascade pulled within one in the top of the second, but that one-run differential was as close as the Champions would come.
Marshall County built on its lead with a run in the fourth and closed its scoring with another five-run inning in the fifth.
Cascade was able to knock in two runs in the sixth and a final run in the top of the seventh, but was unable to generate enough offense to make a run at the Tigers’ four-run lead.
Conner Melson led Cascade at the plate with a 2-for-3 night and a double to go along with three RBIs. Ryan Inmon also doubled and drove in a run as well.
Cascade had to reach deep into its pitching staff and five different Champion pitchers made an appearance against the Tigers.
Logan Green pitched one inning and was hit for five runs on three hits, while the Tigers added six runs off Jake Bates.
Walker Craig pitched a scoreless 1/3 inning while Zach Crosslin tossed 2/3 inning and struck out a pair.
Cascade will be back on its home turf on Monday and will host cross-county rival Community in a key District 7-AA matchup at 6:30 p.m.
