SMYRNA — After a clean sweep of their opponents earlier in the week, the Cascade Champions traveled to Smyrna on Thursday night and walked away with another sweep with a 42-24 win over the Smyrna Bulldogs and 42-30win over the LaVergne Wolverines.
Junior Chase Sutter secured the quickest win for the Champions across both matchups with a 20 second fall time victory over his Smyrna opponent.
Sutter pinned both of his opponents in the 145 weight class for a sweep of his own.
Cascade was on the mat for back-to-back matches, but were able to fight fatigue for their victories.
“We wrestled really well against Smyrna and wrestled like we were tired against La Vergne, but we still came out with the win,” Champion head coach Andy Giel said. “A lot of the guys did really well.”
Junior and previous state qualifier Hayden Dowell joined Sutter with pinned victories over both of his opponents in the 182 weight class.
Without an opponent from both foes, fellow previous state qualifiers, Vayden Moore and Cole West, earned victories by forfeit and pin during the meet.
Giel has been impressed by those three and his younger grapplers throughout the beginning of the season.
“Moore, Dowell, and West are blowing the top off of it right now,” he said. “A lot of our younger guys are coming along and wrestling well right now.”
