Bedford County moved over to 211 active COVID-19 cases as of Friday. Tennessee Health Department reports of those, 22 were newly reported.  

Over the weekend, the count went up by 55 cases. 

This brings Bedford County’s total COVID-19 case count, since 2020, to 7,074.  

Since the pandemic data began to be documented by the health department, Bedford County has had 135 deaths and 144 hospitalizations.  

System-wide, as of August 11, Bedford County had 36 reported student cases of COVID, which is less than half of one percent of students enrolled.  

Director of Schools Tammy Garrett said, “We conduct a daily evaluation of the COVID data associated with our schools and county. We are committed to student achievement and growth, and we know our students learn best in the traditional classrooms. We are focused on giving Bedford County students as many educational opportunities as possible including being proficient readers.”  

Garrett said health and safety protocols are in place to keep students in school and will continue to be a focus.  

Specifically, proactive measures include, but are not limited to, hand sanitizer stations in every school, sanitizer wipes and hand sanitizers available in every classroom and available Ionizers or spray cleaning solutions using a Virex sanitizer and disinfectant. High—touch areas are sanitized at least once daily, Garrett said and masks are available at every school. Masks are still optional in schools.
