Home design features in magazines can be awe-inspiring. Quite often, homeowners wish they could lift the looks right off the pages and transform their own homes into such picture-perfect retreats.

Did you know Dwell Fine Interiors & Design is located with easy access right off your historic public square in Shelbyville?

The showroom, located in a 110-year-old building, is currently filled with a selection of unique, high-quality home accessories, lighting, rugs, gift items, and seasonal decor. It takes an eye for design to pull a room together — even with inspiration — and make it both functional and attractive.

Tanya Coffey, Dwell Fine Interiors owner and designer, and Kassie Montross, Dwell Fine Interiors designer, have been studying design and incorporating their talents into Shelbyville living for a while now. Tanya, with over 25 years of experience, says she enjoys helping clients navigate the home design process from the first stages to the finishing touches.

The four step process at Dwell includes: understanding a client’s vision; selecting personal home decor just for that client; and finally, engaging in the personalized proposal, ordering, delivering and installation of all the client’s interior needs.

Interiors have always been Tanya’s passion; she would find herself redecorating her bedroom as a child, assisting her parents with their many remodeling projects, and following her mother through countless decor stores.

She soon realized that her love of architecture, color, and textiles would become her career. Tanya has received multiple awards for her designs and has had the privilege of designing numerous model and custom homes for builders and many clients.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling the world which she advises has influenced her design style with new perspectives and inspiration.

While hiring interior artists, like Tanya and Kassie, is one way to go, homeowners may just want to use some of their techniques and showroom offerings to make a home special and unique. All the right pieces from paintings to scented candles can be found at Dwell, located at 119 East Depot St.

We’ve tucked into this winter feature a few ideas which we believe will make your Shelbyville home special and warm. Before selecting home decorating pieces, here are a few things to consider:

Embrace texture

The colors used in a home can add impact, but designers often utilize various textures to create aesthetic appeal. A single color scheme can be enhanced by various fabrics. Texture adds depth to a room.

Pops of color

Many high-end homes showcase neutral shades that are enhanced by pops of color. Also, many designers work in shades of three for room colors.

A bit of bling

A shiny table lamp, wooden beads, mirrors and a sparkling chandelier are easy ways to produce a high-end feel.

Big statements

Many homeowners make the mistake of filling a room with several small pieces of furniture that only contribute to well, clutter. Instead, look for a statement piece—an armoire, perhaps. Mix and match large and small elements, such as wicker balls for a sense of balance or a rabbit fur throw for warmth.

Accessorize, a little

Finish a room with accessories and flowers, traditional or edgy artistic. Experiment with different scales and heights, such as a colorful Pampas grass or feather arrangement, for even more dimension.

Prepare for investment

When inspiration hits, take some cues from our interior design pros to make spaces look like they belong on the pages of your favorite magazine. Spending your money efficiently and being satisfied with the end results is what matters the most when decorating a living space, design pros note.
