Dispute erupts over crossing railroad track

A CSX Railroad worker admitted to a Bedford County deputy he angrily confronted a man at the Cortner Mill Road crossing around sunrise Friday.

The train was at a complete stop so an area resident walked his children across. The worker, who was not charged, allegedly “got in the face” of the area resident and was yelling.

Deputy Joshua Nave’s report said the worker admitted the confrontation and was upset because he’d told the resident not to get in between railroad cars.

Another CSX worker pulled the two apart and allowed the man and his children to cross.

Wanted chicken

A man wanting to buy a chicken from a Thompson Road man was persistent despite the owner’s refusal to sell Thursday, a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The visitor, described as a Latino male in a late model GMC pickup, offered to give the resident jewelry in exchange for a rooster after an initial offer was turned down.

The suspect allegedly tried to “corner” the rooster and leave with it. At that point the owner told him he was armed and calling law enforcement.

He was last seen heading toward Halls Mill Road.
