Eagles lock down 6-AAA title

Winning district soccer championships never gets old and Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagles know that first hand.
Now add another to that accomplishment.
The Golden Eagles went undefeated in the District 6-AAA regular and backed that effort in the district tournament after claiming a 3-0 win over Coffee County at home on Thursday night.
Shelbyville Central (10-7-0) hosts Howard, of Chattanooga, on Tuesday night at 7 in the opening round of the region.
“Tonight was a match that we wanted to be an exclamation point on the end of district play. We knew Coffee had improved in many aspects of their game, but our boys continue to push themselves everyday in practice. Our senior class is extremely humble and always ready to grow as players.”
“The individual work that they put in since last years heartbreak loss at Columbia shows everyday at practice. Our JV and younger guys deserve a ton of praise for always challenging the varsity. I told the boys we play the second best team in the district everyday at practice,” Shelbyville Central coach Chris Fritz said. “To finish the tournament without giving up a single goal says a lot about our defensive line and goalkeeper. The depth we have helps us keep our pressing game through subbing and gives us a few tactical adjustments. Honestly, these guys have kept me on my toes as a coach and I love it.”
The Eagles got on the board off a long shot from Daniel Juarez and added a second score off the toe of a Gami Vasquez redirect from a Daniel Torres corner.
A third score came off a header from Edgar Solis on a Jonathan Medel cross in the box.
“Everyone is coming to every single practice with mentality to improve even in the hot days this week, Fritz said. “We still have work to do and these boys all know that with region coming up. We look forward to the challenge.
