MANCHESTER — Shelbyville Central's Golden Eagles closed out the season with a pair of losses in the District 6 4-A baseball tournament on Monday at Coffee County High School.
In one of their best performances of the season, the Eagles dropped a 5-4 decision to top-seed Franklin County in the opening round.
The Eagles battled the entire game and had a great scoring opportunity slip away with the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning with runners on third and second with no outs, but failed to score.
Franklin County hit a two-out double in the bottom on the eighth frame to advance.
Shelbyville Central started senior right-hander Jarius Brown with relief appearances by William Bobo and Gabe Adams.
Sam Vinvent got the start for the Rebels followed Gattis Henley and Josh Stoltzfus in relief.
Vincent, Gage Baker and Eric Jones each doubled with Jones adding a single for the winners.
Nick Johnson ripped a double and single while Marquis Wilson Wilson and
Arye Kavanaugh added a doubler a piece for the Eagles.
In the elimination game that followed, the Eagles were shutout 2-0 by Warren County.
Baler Melton scattered four hits and fanned eight batters with only one walk to claim the win on the mound.
Will Vance had a double and single while Easton Denning added a two-bagger for the winners.
Wilson collected a pair of singles to pace Shelbyville Central at the plate.
