LEWISBURG, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes took home a pair of victories before the Christmas holiday, taking down both Culleoka and Centennial at the Marshall County Christmas Classic.
Shelbyville first handled Culleoka with ease, 54-30, behind Janiya Leslie’s team-high 13 points. Lanaya Young also reached double-figures, finishing with 10 points of her own. In all, 10 different Eaglettes put their names in the scoresheet en route to the 24-point win.
Culleoka struggled offensively to get anything going, scoring just 11 points at halftime after Shelbyville raced out to a 25-11 lead at the break. From there, the Eaglettes held Culleoka to just 19 second-half points, never allowing more than 10 points scored in any quarter as Shelbyville pulled away for the easy victory. Kendall Reischman finished with a team-high 13 points for Culleoka, but finished just 7/17 from the free throw line on the night.
In the second game the following day, Shelbyville took the defensive intensity to another level, defeating Centinnial, 64-24. The Eaglettes forced 25 Lady Cougars’ turnovers and scored 63 of their 65 total points in the first three quarters.
Lanaya Young led the way with a game-high 14 points for Shelbyville. She was joined by three teammates in double-figures as well with Janiya Leslie, Morgan Pridemore, and Jada Berry all contributing with 12 points, 12 points, and 10 points, respectively. Eight of Berry’s points came in the third quarter as part of a 27-point team effort.
For Centennial, Mabry Simmons scored a team-high nine points while Addison Pauley chipped in with eight points of her own.
Shelbyville Central held a slim early advantage, 12-9, after the opening period, but turned things up a few notches starting in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Cougars, 24-4, to take a commanding 36-13 lead into the halftime locker room.
The Eaglettes came out of the locker room with the same intensity they closed the first half with, outscoring Centennial, 27-6, to take a 63-19 lead into the final frame, leading to the 65-24 final score.
Shelbyville Central finds themselves at 8-5 heading into 2025. They are scheduled to travel to Clarksville NE on Monday, January 6 with tip-off slated for 6:00 p.m.
