Elma Ballinger recently reached a milestone in her life, turning 100 years young.

Born and raised near Corbin, Ky., she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio after graduating from high school. She went to find work.

Elma moved to northern Kentucky where she worked and raised her 3 children.

Family recall how Elma loved working in the public, meeting and talking to people.

"She has always had beautiful vegetable and flower gardens," said one family member.

Elma moved to a Tennessee in 1995 where she lives today with her daughter and son-in-law. She has many grands and great-grandchildren.

While her health is failing, family still give her the love they say she greatly deserves.

Since 1980, longevity has greatly increased in the United States.

So, happy 100th Elma! You made it!
