Golden Eagles Finish 3-0 in 2025 Viking Classic

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (10-4, 0-2) slugged their way to three-consecutive wins in the Viking Classic at home against East Robertson (7-5), 4-1, on Friday followed by blowout wins against Community (4-6), 14-0, and Sequatchie County (7-6), 15-3, on Saturday.

Golden Eagles Finish 3-0 in 2025 Viking Classic

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (10-4, 0-2) slugged their way to three-consecutive wins in the Viking Classic at home against East Robertson (7-5), 4-1, on Friday followed by blowout wins against Community (4-6), 14-0, and Sequatchie County (7-6), 15-3, on Saturday.

William Bobo toed the rubber for Shelbyville on Friday night against East Robertson, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run on five hits and a walk along with four strikeouts on 68 pitches, picking up the win. Caden Duggan came on in relief, throwing the final 2.0 innings giving up no hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

For East Robertson, Aidan Shoumake threw the full 5.1 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on nine hits and six walks with six strikeouts on 99 pitches. 

After a scoreless first inning, the Golden Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The visitors plated one run in the top of the fourth for their only run of the night. Shelbyville closed out the game with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to reach the final margin of 4-1. 

Of the nine hits as a team, Shelbyville’s top three hitters – William Bobo, Caden Duggin, and Stephen Bobo – went a combined 4-9 at the plate with three walks and just one strikeout. Caden Peacock and Palmer Edwards each recorded one RBI while Edwards went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a double.

In the first game on Saturday against Community, the Golden Eagles plated 14 runs in the first two innings en route to a 14-0 run-rule victory after the fifth inning. 

Palmer Edwards pitched a complete 5.0 innings of no-hit ball, striking out seven Vikings and walking just one on 63 pitches. 

For Community, Kaleb Maillett got the start, lasting just 1.0 innings while giving up eight runs, four earned, on seven hits and one walk while striking out one batter on 43 pitches. Wesley Haley came on in relief, recording the next six outs while giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out one on 58 pitches. Logan Reed came on to get the final three outs in the fourth inning, giving up just one hit and recording a strikeout on 14 pitches. 

Shelbyville slugged out 14 hits in just four innings at the plate. William Bobo went 2-2 with two walks and a double. Caden Duggin went 2-3 with a double and four RBIs while Stephen Bobo finished 1-3 with a walk, 2 RBIs, and a home run. Brody Lovvorn, batting cleanup, finished 3-4 at the plate with one RBI while Palmer Edwards went 2-3 with a triple and four RBIs.

Shelbyville opened up the floodgates quickly in the bottom of the first inning with eight runs to take an 8-0 lead. The Golden Eagles then tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the second to balloon the lead to 14-0 where it stayed until Edwards recorded the final out of the top of the fifth inning to seal the run-rule win.

In the second game on Saturday, Shelbyville Central used an eight-run second inning to pull away from Sequatchie, 15-3, after five innings.

Michael Estrada went 4.2 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out nine batters on 68 pitches. Ashton Whorley came on to get the final out, striking out the first batter he faced on three pitches.

Hunter Minton started on the mound for Sequatchie, lasting just 1.2 innings while giving up nine runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts on 49 pitches. However, due to six errors in the field, none of the nine runs were scored as earned. Ryker Terry came on in relief, throwing 1.0 innings while giving up two unearned runs on one hit and a walk with two strikeouts on 27 pitches. Sawyer Davis got the final four outs, but not before giving up four earned runs on five hits while throwing 27 pitches.

Once again, the top three batters for Shelbyville combined to go 6-12 at the plate with seven RBIs. William Bobo went 2-4 with three RBIs and a triple, Duggan went 1-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Stephen Bobo finished 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases. Palmer Edwards continued his hot weekend at the dish, finishing 2-3 with another RBI. Brody Thomas also finished 2-3.

Shelbyville scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, then after Sequatchie tied the game in the top of the second, the Golden Eagles exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second to go back in front, 9-1. The hosts tacked on two more in the third followed by four runs in the fourth. Sequatchie got two runs back in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 15-3, but it was not enough to prevent the run-rule.

Shelbyville returns to District 9-AAAA play on Monday, traveling to Coffee County with first pitch currently scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
