SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (7-4, 0-2) bounced back from their district series against Lincoln County with a 15-2 run-rule home win after four innings over the Heritage Christian Angels (AL) on Wednesday night.
Shelbyville recorded 12 RBIs on just eight hits, but the Golden Eagles’ offense was patient at the plate, working eight walks as well.
Sean Bucher started on the mound for the Angels, but he was able to get just six outs, giving up 10 runs – eight of them earned – on five hits and five walks on 82 pitches. He also gave up a home run to Golden Eagles’ leadoff man, William Bobo. Jace Morgan came on in relief to get the final three outs, and of the five runs Shelbyville scored with him on the mound, only one run was earned. Morgan gave up three hits and three walks on 43 pitches. Angels’ pitching combined to hit four batters as well.
Brody Lovvorn got the start for the hosts, pitching a complete 4.0 innings. Lovvorn gave up just two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters on 79 pitches and picking up the win.
The Golden Eagles opened the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Heritage Christian responded with two runs of their own to tie things up at 2-2, in part due to Bucher, who went 2-3 at the plate with a double on the night, driving home left fielder Jacob Graves after Graves was hit by a pitch.
Shelbyville took the lead for good with a trio of runs in the home half of the inning to go up 5-2. After Lovvorn posted another zero in the top of the third, the dam completely broke as the hosts exploded for a season-high 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to balloon the lead to 15-2. Lovvorn posted one final zero in the top of the fourth to trigger the run-rule victory.
Shelbyville’s top four hitters in the batting order combined for six of the eight hits, finishing 6-9 with 11 RBIs and drawing four of the eight walks. William Bobo went 1-1 with the aforementioned home run, a pair of walks, and two RBIs while coming around to score three times. Behind him, Caden Duggan batted 2-3 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs. Stephen Bobo, batting third, finished 2-3 with a double of his own while driving home a game-high four runs. Batting cleanup, Brody Lovvorn chipped in by going 1-2 with a walk and two more RBIs of his own.
Caden Peacock, batting fifth, recorded one RBI on a pair of walks. Brody Thomas went 1-2 with a walk, and Eli Laye also went 1-2 at the plate with a walk, coming around to score both times he reached base.
Both Bobos, Braxton Vari, and Palmer Edwards were all hit by a pitch, totaling 19 times a Golden Eagle reached base. William Bobo’s home run accounted for the 20th time a Shelbyville batsman touched the basepaths.
Shelbyville is set to host East Robertson on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. before hosting Community at 7:00 p.m. on the first day of the Viking Classic. The Golden Eagles then welcome in Sequatchie County on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. before returning to District 9-AAAA play on Monday night against Coffee County.
