FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (14-2, 5-2) took down the Lincoln County Falcons, 4-2, in the District 8-AA Semifinals on Tuesday night.
After suffering their first district defeat of the season at Lincoln County back on April 14, the Golden Eagles exacted revenge and ended the Falcons’ season with some hard-fought singles’ wins.
Shelbyville opened things up by taking the doubles point after Liam Spence and Tanner Johnson won 8-5 over Noah Gibson and Talan McMeen.
In the singles, Henry Stone dominated Jackston Porter, 8-2, on Court One to give Shelbyville a 2-0 lead. Justin Spence took down Talan McMeen, 8-5, on Court Two to give the Golden Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead until Noah Gibson held off Tucker Johnson, 8-4, on Court Three to put the Falcons on the board. Aaryan Patel for Lincoln County cut the lead to 3-2 after taking down Carter Watson on Court Five, but Tanner Johnson fended off Auldon Watt, 8-6, to punch Shelbyville’s ticket to both the District 8-AA Championship and the Regional in Cookeville.
The individual tournament begins on Thursday, May 1, and runs through Friday, May 2, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Shelbyville Recreational Center.
