TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – The Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (14-3, 5-2) saw their season come to a close in the District 8-AA Championship against the Tullahoma Wildcats, 5-2, on Tuesday.
In a rematch of the final regular season meeting where Tullahoma dominated the Golden Eagles, 6-1, the Wildcats saw similar success in clinching the District Title on their own court, clinching a berth in the Region 4-AA Championship in Cookeville at the same time.
The hosts swept the doubles points, as Luke Regan and Ryan Tension took down Henry Stone and Tucker Johnson, 8-4, while Thommy Phan and Eli Martinez held off Justin Spence and Tanner Johnson, 8-4.
In the singles matches, Tullahoma’s Luke Regan dispatched Justin Spence, 8-2, on Court One. Henry Stone secured one of the Golden Eagles’ points, taking down Ryan Tension, 8-4, on Court Two. Tucker Johnson came up just short against Eli Martinez, 8-6, on Court Three, but Tanner Johnson outlasted Tommy Phan in a heartstopping tiebreaker, 10-8, on Court Four. However, Chase Banks held off Carter Watson, 8-6, on Court Five to help seal the deal for Tullahoma.
The Wildcats will take on the winner of District 7-AA in the Region 4-AA Championship on Friday, May 9, for a spot in the state-sectional round.
Shelbyville’s team season comes to an end as Runners-Up in District 8-AA.
