EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (11-2-1) saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night at Eagleville (5-3) in a 1-0 defeat.
In what was a pitchers duel, each team managed to tally just three hits. However, the only difference was a fifth-inning solo home run off the bat of Brinli Bain. Bain went 2-3 at the plate with that home run against Viqueens’ ace Annie Prince.
Prince, meanwhile, threw 6.0 innings of one-run ball on the afore-mentioned three hits and one walk while striking out six on just 84 pitches. Her counterpart in the circle, Allie Linton, threw the first 4.0 innings, giving up just a pair of singles with a single walk while striking out nine Viqueens on 70 pitches. Madison Davenport came on in relief to close out the final 3.0 innings, giving up just a single hit and no walks while striking out two.
Community leadoff hitter and freshman left fielder, Mattie Maxey, went 1-3 at the plate with a walk. Anna Haskins tallied the other two hits for the Viqueens, finishing 2-3 at the plate with a pair of singles. Gracie Daniel also was credited with a sacrifice attempting to move Maxey over after her hit.
For Eagleville, senior leadoff hitter and starting catcher, Brinli Bain, came up with the two key hits while Davenport tallied the only other base knock – a single – that the Lady Eagles could muster up against Prince.
Community ended the night with seven players left on base while Eagleville finished with just five. The Viqueens committed a trio of errors in the field while the Lady Eagles committed just one. Despite those fielding mistakes, neither offense could get on the board until Bain’s solo shot produced the lone run of the game late in the fifth.
Davenport kept the lead for Eagleville by picking up the final six outs in the sixth and seventh innings, picking up the win in the process.
Community drops just their second game of the season, falling to 11-2-1. They are scheduled to host the Lady Eagles in the rematch on Friday night with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
