An elderly Bedford County man was arrested after allegedly repeatedly calling 911 asking for a ride, according to a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office report.
A dispatcher at Bedford County Communications Center told the BCSO Howard Oaky Crosslin, 81, of Cleveland Road called 15 times and was warned to stop or he’d be jailed.
Deputy Gabae Doyle went to Crosslin’s residence around 1 a.m. Thursday and found no one home. Calls continued and Doyle returned around 5 a.m. to find Crosslin, who allegedly said 911 was “stuck in his phone” and he needed a ride to Normandy.
Crosslin was told no stores were open at that time and that 911 is only for emergency calls.
Hang-up calls began coming from Crosslin around an hour later, a dispatcher told the BCSO. Doyle found Crosslin walking on Cleveland Road and arrested him for misuse of emergency services. He was held on $500 bond at Bedford County Jail.
Trailer stolen
A cattle trailer was taken overnight Tuesday from a farm on Trott Road, the BCSO was told.
