Funeral services for Marion Lewis Savage, 98, of Shelbyville, will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2019, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy West officiating and David Thomas, grandson, speaking. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Mr. Savage passed from this life early Thursday morning, October 31, 2019, at the Carriage House Inn with family by his side.

Visitation will be held Sunday, prior to funeral service, starting at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born July 5, 1921, in Shelbyville, TN to the late Marion Ottis and Zuella Beatty Savage and was preceded in death by: loving wife, June Prosser Savage; daughters, Barbara Savage Thomas, and Sandra Savage Vandergriff; infant son, Donald Marion Savage; infant grandson, Daniel Lewis Sorrells, an infant great-granddaughter; and sister, Vera Savage Curlee.

Marion served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. He worked as a general contractor in Bedford County for 35 years. He was a longtime member and Deacon Emeritus at Edgemont Baptist Church. He served as a Bedford County Commissioner and is a Hall of Fame Member of the Spotted Saddle Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association. He was a resident of the Carriage House Inn for six years.

His family would like to extend the gratitude toward the staff of the Carriage House Inn and to the nurses of Hospice Compassus.

Survivors include: daughters, Ellen (Buddy) Taylor, Connie (Aaron) Crafton, both of Shelbyville, and Nancy (David) Sorrells of Rutherford County; sons-in-law, Monty Thomas of Nashville, and Mike Vandergriff of Shelbyville; grandchildren, David (Connie) Thomas, Sharon (Jim) Kintzler, Dolly (Michael) Sharp, Brandi (Jason) Martin, Haley (Chase) Rogers; step-grandchildren, Britton (Julie) Crafton, and Kristi (Matt) Crass; seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; and sister Jeanie Orr of Arkansas.

Memorial donations may be made to Daystar Ministries, The Barbara Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2801 Azalea Place, Nashville, TN 37204.
