Mom pleads for son's bicycle return

Recently, Ashley Farmer called Shelbyville Police and reported someone had stolen her son Malachi's bicycle. She reportedly had seen someone drive away in a black Ram pickup.

Police advised that a lot of people pick up items left on the side of the street, thinking they're free. Maybe that's what happened, she surmised. Still, the bike was a Christmas present, the single mom said, and is quite valuable, not just in price, but very special to her 5-year-old son. The bicycle had a Cars design, featuring Lightning McQueen from the animated Pixar film. Ashley said it is likely she won't be able to afford to replace that bike, as she got it on sale at Christmastime.

The young mom said said it is a sad situation at her house, especially since Malachi has severe asthma and has lately been crying over the bike; she was taking him to the hospital on Wednesday as a result of his condition. Malachi also has some attention deficit.

The Shelbyville mom who lives near West Lane street, said she hopes it will be returned for her son's sake. She would like to put up a reward for its return, but just can't afford it.

"I just hope someone will return it out of the goodness of their heart," she said.
